The decision to seek out a therapist is an important first step towards positively addressing conflicts, managing distress, and learning to cope with negative or overwhelming feelings. Our team of therapists bring years of therapy experience. We work with children, adolescents, adults, and families who are Deaf or come from Deaf families (includes hearing family/friends who sign). We provide a supportive, nurturing environment. We use a multimodal approach incorporating mind-body therapies with evidence-based treatments.

If you are stressed or depressed or working through a difficult time, it can be so helpful to have a safe, compassionate person to bounce things off of. I don't have all of the answers, but, after nearly 3 decades of experience, I have some of them. Using data-based techniques, I can help you correct unhelpful patterns and unlock answers within yourself. I love helping people live their best life.

I believe that I work best with clients who are invested in getting well. I work best with clients who want to do the hard work of exploring their emotional and somatic (body) reactions to life's stressors and people. This is not talk therapy. I use art, sandtray, EMDR. and Sensorimotor therapy to provide opportunities for updating coping skills and teaching clients how to regulate one's nervous system which in turn empowers a client to realize he/she/they can bring themselves to calm. You will learn what is triggering in both body memory and emotional memory which often keep you living in fear or anxiety.

Public speaker and counselor in private practice at Elliott Counseling Services focused on life transitions including divorce, parenting, disabling diagnoses, grief and self-esteem.
Before I was a therapist, I was an educator. For one course, my job was to teach first responders how to get important information from potentially traumatized witnesses/victims. I often wondered what I would do if I were permitted to see the crisis through. I believe it's my combination of a solid background in communication-which includes relationships, gender-speak, assertiveness and self-talk-and my education in Clinical Psychology and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor certification that provide for a well-balanced approach to individual counseling.

Children and adolescents experience a wide range of issues such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, difficulty regulating emotions, and challenges with impulse control. These issues make it difficult to deal with unfortunate but common factors, like family or sibling conflict, parental divorce, or unexpected loss. Many children respond to these issues and factors with less-than-desirable behaviors, such as electronic/video game addiction, educational challenges, difficulty making friends, substance abuse issues, or destructive and defiant behaviors.

Hi! I’m so glad you are here to learn a bit more about me. Picking the right therapist is such an important decision and I want you to feel confident you’ve found a great match. One of my biggest priorities is to make therapy feel good for people. I know for many, therapy can seem awkward or uncomfortable. I’m trying my best to change that narrative by allowing our time together to feel relaxed, a space where you feel like an equal. I want you to feel seen and understood anytime we work together.

Divorce Therapists

How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?

Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?

There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioral, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?

When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
