As a certified sex and relationship therapist, I find many people have difficulty talking about sex and often define themselves by the sexual challenges they live with. Instead of seeing sexual differences as negative or bad, what if we can redefine them to focus on our ability to feel pleasure during our sexual experiences? Sex is often not “safe” for people in emotional or physical pain. Some people develop a fear of engaging in sex; others avoid even talking about sex. When leaning into fear and avoidance, they give up on pleasure and sexuality.
Sex and communication issues are common in relationships. They look different in every relationship - what’s universal is that none of us came with a manual for understanding our pleasure centers and our trigger points. Using a sex-positive, attachment-based approach, we can help you gain an understanding of what turns you on and what sets you off.
At Dalliance, our clinicians are extensively trained to support individuals who are overwhelmed with work, parenting, relationship distress, and grief over what life "should" be. These factors all impact our desire for sex and intimacy. The reality is that sex is an intrinsic part of being human and we all deserve pleasure and connection.
