Although much of my early experience was with teens and young adults, I have discovered that I like working with clients of all ages and genders. Before becoming a social worker, I was a high school teacher for 23 years and worked as a social worker in a therapeutic school. I am particularly interested in supporting adoptees, sexual assault survivors, young people with learning differences, and LGBTQ+ youth as they heal from loss or trauma, discover their strengths, and construct an authentic identity. I have also run support groups for adoptees, trans/nonbinary teens, and parents of TGN teens.
Using a strengths-based perspective, I solicit client concerns and current supports and challenges. In addition to listening to understand, validating feelings, and respecting lived experience, I connect individuals with resources and use approaches such as EMDR, CBT, somatic practices and mindfulness to help them reach their goals.
Times of conflict and change are often uncomfortable, but they are also opportunities for growth. Silence and loneliness often breed shame, which interferes with our sense of connectedness.
