I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and have been licensed since 2000. I have worked with a variety of clients with a variety of issues. I believe in starting where the client is. By that I mean I want to see what someone is struggling with currently and start there. I prefer adults. I feel like I can connect more with them. My clients have depression, anxiety, OCD, and PTSD.
I use a patient-centered approach. I believe we have to go where the client wants to go. Therapy is for the client so I need to listen to them and explore the things that are important to them.
I want my clients to feel "safe". I am nonjudgemental and I want them to be comfortable talking to me. That's not to say that things don't get uncomfortable at times. It does. But I still want them to know it is a safe place to say the things that need to get said.
