I am trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, an evidence-based practice that focuses on Mindfulness, Emotion Regulation, Distress Tolerance and Interpersonal Effectiveness.
I'm open to a broad client base but my predominant experience is with first gen college students, pro athletes & their family members. I ran the mental health services for UW athletics and am currently the consulting clinician for the Seattle Mariners and the NHL. I work best with driven people experiencing a big change. Perhaps, despite your best efforts, things aren’t working out as you’d hoped. Or perhaps you’ve gotten all you wanted and it doesn’t satisfy the way you thought it might. Though I often work with athletes I am not a Sports Psych. In fact, I don’t even follow sports! I’m here for the rest of your life and identity.

I have co-facilitated a Dialectical Behavioral Therapy group and offer DBT informed therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in my private practice.
It takes courage to seek therapy, and I commend you for taking this step. Are you looking for a safe space to process challenging feelings, thoughts, events and/or relationships? Do you want to learn tools to help you be more actively engaged and present in your life? Is fear or sadness preventing you from living in alignment with your values or accomplishing your goals? I believe that we all have an innate ability and desire to live our lives with intent, and sometimes we need support and guidance to connect to those values as we navigate our ever changing circumstances.

My approach draws from a variety of behavioral treatments supported by science, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).
My goal for each of my clients is to help them build and sustain a life they want to live. This can seem like a daunting task, especially for the many of us who have struggled to make long-lasting changes in our mental health. As a clinical psychologist, I strive to help clients foster awareness of the underlying thoughts and behaviors that drive emotional suffering, and to help clients build a diverse repertoire of evidence-based skills for taking back control of these experiences.

Our therapy style is based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Solution Focused Therapy (SFT).
Each person has the ability to learn, grow and make necessary changes in their personal life, relationships, and situations. We aim at exploring and understanding ways of thinking and patterns of behavior one may be completely unaware of, resulting in repetitive patterns of behavior that ultimately lead to dissatisfaction and emotional turmoil in a person's life. We are driven by a belief that each individual has potential to grow from their life experiences, whether it be good or bad. As a group of highly qualified and trained therapists, we are passionate about solving critical challenges and inspiring personal growth.

I have additional training in Telehealth and I'm certified and trained in Emotional Focused Couples Therapy, DBT, CBT and Gestalt.
Life comes at us fast and we’re not always ready for it but that’s okay! I believe that we all crave connection with our peers, friends, family, and partners. And when we aren’t working on those connections, we’re working to build our connection with ourself. To fully work through that and make progress, I use a direct approach in helping clients address concerns that may arise from their connections with others or with themself. I believe that the most progress can be made when it’s accompanied with empathy and unconditional positive regard - two pillars of therapeutic work to foster growth and a sense of safety.

I draw from attachment theory, psychodynamic and Buddhist psychology, CBT, DBT, Family Systems, EMDR & Mindfulness.
We each have the ability to adapt, overcome adversity, feel joy and sorrow, love, and reach our highest potential. Stressful life events, trauma, loss, conflicts, illness, and transitions can overwhelm our ability to cope. Healing becomes blocked. We become stuck. We protect and defend ourselves to avoid ever feeling that pain again. Solutions that once worked become part of the problem. When the traumatic wound is triggered, we experience intense emotion and distorted ways of thinking. In therapy, we journey together to uncover and remove the blocks to healing, transforming pain and loss into meaning, awareness, and choice.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
