In this strengths-based approach, I utilize techniques from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Exposure Therapy, and Radical Acceptance.
Currently, I am specializing in relationship issues, self-esteem, and women’s issues. I am skilled in working with anxiety, mood disorders, and complex trauma with all age ranges. My strong suits are empathy and my ability to really understand where someone is coming from, and I use that to develop a positive path forward. Rather than sticking to a particular method, I custom tailor my session to meet the unique needs of each individual. Earlier in my career, I was published in peer-reviewed journals for my research in Clinical Psychology.

I formally trained in DBT, which teaches useful life skills, and CPT for PTSD treatment.
You're LGBTQIA+, large-bodied, or managing chronic illness and enduring depression, anxiety, or PTSD. You're a therapist dealing with burnout or mental/physical illness. Intersecting identities, oppression, and health issues are complex. You can't waste precious energy on an ignorant therapist or risk prejudice. Therapists are likely feeling stretched or burned out under converging life and work stressors. Others assume we have it handled and we feel we should too. If any of this resonates with you, as your new therapist, I GOT you! These specialties align with my life experiences and identity. Let's hit the ground running!

With adolescents, I build positive partnerships grounded in trust and accountability, integrating dialectical behavioral therapy, family systems therapy, psychodynamic and existential interventions, with an understanding of developmental stages and individual world view.
I provide psychotherapy to individuals and families to promote growth and empowerment through supportive listening, mindfulness, and examination of past experiences, allowing clients to cultivate insight and bring about lasting change. I use a collaborative and dynamic approach that incorporates multiple theoretical approaches and techniques to meet both individual and family needs and preferences. I believe that insight alone does not bring about change; rather, we must do something different to become something different. I offer compassion, humor, honesty, and straightforward feedback while I empower individuals and families to explore their own goals and work toward growth and healing.

I love working with adults and older adults. I often work with people on anxiety, depression, trauma, and difficulty with life transitions. My approach is supportive, warm, and nonjudgmental. My theoretical orientation is eclectic, drawing on humanistic, existential, and narrative approaches as well as skills-based frameworks such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical-behavior behavior therapy (DBT). I work with a feminist, social-justice focused, and antiracist lens to appreciate the ways in which people and their wellbeing are affected by systems of oppression and how this may challenge or connect us in therapy.

As every need is different, I use an eclectic approach such as trauma-focused interventions, solution-focused treatment, DBT, CBT, EMDR, and mindfulness.
As a trauma therapist, I believe that personal growth and transformation is vital to the human experience, and that sometimes we need support through this process. Therapy is embarking on a journey, and you are the hero of your story. In meeting with you where you are at in your journey, I will help you to develop your own set of skills to help you through your daily experiences. I also encourage approaching challenges with vulnerability and self-compassion and will assist in practicing these areas in our sessions. Even though painful experiences are inevitable, I believe that suffering does not have to hold us back from living.

I may draw from IFS, CPT, ERP, ACT, or DBT in our work together.
Current openings! I'm queer and I specialize in supporting LGBTQ+ and nonmonogamous adults around trauma, family of origin issues, gender affirming care, and anxiety, including OCD. Before therapy, many of my clients think: Being in my head is stressful- there are things I'm fearful of talking about, or even thinking about. My past is still affecting me. Setting boundaries can be really hard. Sometimes I have nightmares or flashbacks of things I've been through. If that sounds like you, I can help. Therapy can be a safe, non-judgmental space to make sense of your experiences and create meaningful change in your life.

My approach to counseling is primarily cognitive-behavioral in addition to using aspects of dialectical behavioral and existential therapy.
I strive to help clients understand what is beneath the motivation of using harmful behaviors and attempt to help focus on self-compassion with an understanding that health and wellness is achievable. I like to view myself as a teacher of healthy coping skills where clients are able to over time, enact these skills in their own lives to have the confidence to make changes for themselves. Techniques used to help facilitate our sessions may include family therapy, exposure therapy, journaling and use of psycho-educational resources (homework, books, videos, etc).

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
