I have professional training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
Life is full of challenges. Every day can bring obstacles to face. Add in dealing with anxiety, depression, low self esteem, adjustment disorders, or grief, and life may feel unmanageable. I have worked with children, teens and adults in inpatient crisis stabilization and outpatient settings. I have experience with Major Depressive Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I have experience in behavior, peer issues, self-harm, depression, anxiety, ADHD, and conduct disorders.

I have extensive experience teaching DBT skills in both group and individualized settings.
I welcome you to my practice and want you to know that over many years, I have worked with clients who have suffered from a great variety of issues and who have recovered hope and been able to successfully 'reset' their lives. My clients often feel stuck initially due to possible ADHD, depression, trauma, anxiety, relationship problems, eating disorders, or other addictions, or some combination of these. Through our therapeutic relationship, life skills through DBT work, and new perspectives through CBT work, you will be empowered to create a life worth living.

In this strengths-based approach, I utilize techniques from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Exposure Therapy, and Radical Acceptance.
Currently, I am specializing in relationship issues, self-esteem, and women’s issues. I am skilled in working with anxiety, mood disorders, and complex trauma with all age ranges. My strong suits are empathy and my ability to really understand where someone is coming from, and I use that to develop a positive path forward. Rather than sticking to a particular method, I custom tailor my session to meet the unique needs of each individual. Earlier in my career, I was published in peer-reviewed journals for my research in Clinical Psychology.

I provide non-judgmental, empathetic, and person-centered approach to therapy. My goal as a licensed counselor will be to develop a collaborative relationship where each client feels empowered to act as an expert in developing healthy coping skills, manage anxiety, depression, navigate difficult life transitions, reduce stress and emotional distress, to enhance communication skills and relationships. In therapy, we can learn to become more aware of our thoughts and actions, of how negative thought patterns and behaviors may be blocking our self-awareness and making us unhappy, and how we can change.

I have been a therapist for 13 years and primarily use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) in addition to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and expressive methods (writing, art, and play) to engage clients and families.
As a child and family therapist I work with tweens, teens and young adults (11-25 yr. old) and caregivers. Being young can be fun and also sometimes stressful, confusing, and painful. I work with young people experiencing depression, anxiety, PTSD, emotional dysregulation and distress, and relationship challenges. I also love to work with parents. As parents, whether our child is or is not willing to get therapeutic support, doing our own work to care effectively can have invaluable impact in our children's lives. I help parents to better understand their child, support regulation, and model effective skills.

I draw from various modalities, including: CBT, DBT, and IFS.
Let’s be real, having a body is complicated. Given the context of the world we live in, it makes sense to feel a wide range of emotions about your body, food, movement, and the list goes on. Eating disorders, disordered eating, body image concerns, and low self-worth can so often feel like they come part and parcel with our society and the traumas so many of us endure throughout our lives. Thank goodness you don’t have to figure it all out alone! I believe that healing comes through gentle curiosity about ourselves and answering the question of “Why am I like this?” with nonjudgmental compassion.

Welcome! Therapy is a partnership in which we can work together to cultivate your inner wisdom and make needed change. I believe that mindful awareness of our emotions, thoughts, bodies, and behaviors is a foundation for living authentically. Our work will begin with me listening and learning about where you want to go in life and what makes it hard for you to take those steps.

By utilizing a non-judgmental and holistic approach based in attachment theory and DBT together we can take steps towards self-empowerment and growth.
Hello! My name is Melia and I specialize in working with people who are in their late teens and early adult years. As a transracial adoptee myself, I am passionate about working with adoptees struggling with identity related issues, anxiety, depression, and relationships. Hello, I'm Katie and I provide dialectical behavior therapy – a therapy which aims to not only offer skills and education needed to understand emotions, but also how to "work with" one's psychobiology, wisdom, and insights about oneself and the world.
Have you ever been told or wondered if you're "too sensitive" or "too emotional?" As if this is a shameful thing? I'll take a wild guess and say that hearing this probably doesn't help in feeling "less" emotional. This can be such a bind – maybe intense emotions/behaviors make things harder. However, a sense of acceptance, whether it comes from within or from loved ones, can profoundly support in feeling understood, safe, and resilient. And these more subtle feelings can absolutely assist in the pursuit of making necessary changes in emotional expression & related behaviors, impact on relationships, and presence day-to-day.

As a therapist I use evidence-based practices that utilize elements of Narrative therapy, CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and other modalities depending on the situation and your needs.
Life can be complicated and stressful at times and change can include triggers making the journey complicated. During these times it is human to reach out for empathy, support, and safety. My therapy approach is guided by the needs of each individual I work with. We will collaboratively create affirming, safe space to share and address your needs and concerns, explore potential solutions, and honor growth, no matter what stage your are at along your journey to a more fulfilled life. I employ a psychodynamic approach to therapy for healing of trauma and identity exploration. I treat all individuals with dignity and respect.

Drawing upon Motivational Interviewing, DBT, CBT, and creative and somatic engagement techniques, I help clients build new skills, problem-solve, and take meaningful steps outside of therapy.
At Sequoia, I work with young people ages 14 - 25 years old. I appreciate supporting those who want to: increase their self-worth; experience emotions without being overwhelmed by them; improve their relationships with their family, friends, or significant others; examine the relationship between past events and current patterns; make changes in their behaviors that are consistent with their goals and values; and/or navigate oppression with more self-respect and advocacy skills. I have supported people of many identities, including people who identify as queer, NB, trans, POC, and neurodiverse.

My style of therapy is born out of a mix of Brief Strategic Family Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, so it is very active and directive.
I specialize in supporting families and couples who are struggling to communicate effectively. This may look like every conversation turning into a fight, no longer being able to understand or relate to the other person's point of view, behavior challenges with children, or feeling completely exhausted by being stuck in a pattern together. I help guide families and couples back to mutual understanding, in working through and resolving conflicts, and in addressing how behaviors affect one another.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
