It is from this place that a vast amount of untapped resources can be found and the innate wisdom of the body resides. Allow me to support you in connecting to this place within yourself and disentangling from your habits and barriers to live a fuller life. We will work together to analyze and change old patterns to form new habits. I am certified in animal-assisted therapy and trained in working with kink and non-monogamy. People who are deemed as "unique" or "different" often see themselves as misunderstood. This can lead to many different issues such as isolation/loneliness, anxiety, depression, stress, self-esteem issues, and many others. The teenage and young adult life stages can be especially tough.

I draw on a variety of modalities, including emotionally focused therapy, motivational interviewing, DBT, mindfulness, person-centered therapy, trauma-focused therapy, creative, and more.
I believe therapy can serve as a potent and powerful conduit for healing, a place where you can say the things that you often don't, a cozy nest for sharing your most vulnerable self in search of hope and meaning, a platform for decision-making and action as you forge your way through change and growth. I believe it is our right and journey as humans to find and create a life of meaning. Our suffering is often the result of old behaviors, old traumas, old ways of thinking that we cling to in fear. And I believe that each individual is unique, with strengths, hopes, and challenges.

My approach draws from a variety of behavioral treatments supported by science, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).
My goal for each of my clients is to help them build and sustain a life they want to live. This can seem like a daunting task, especially for the many of us who have struggled to make long-lasting changes in our mental health. As a clinical psychologist, I strive to help clients foster awareness of the underlying thoughts and behaviors that drive emotional suffering, and to help clients build a diverse repertoire of evidence-based skills for taking back control of these experiences.

My philosophy is shaped significantly by Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) specifically.
I work with people who are feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or like their emotions are out of control… they feel like they're on a treadmill, trying so hard but getting nowhere, relationships aren’t what they want them to be, maybe they don’t have enough energy to do things and rest isn’t restful. Or maybe it’s that they're not making progress on meaningful things and instead seem caught up in surviving day-to-day.

My relational therapy employs Mindfulness meditation, Somatic (body based) therapy, ACT, DBT .
Life can be difficult and painful at times but it doesn't have to involve so much suffering. How may we find the calm stillness in the eye of our storm so as to relate to our mind and our present experience compassionately and even learn and grow from it? I invite you to open to your life in a new way: a way that relieves your suffering and promotes your health and expands your awareness. Through mindfully listening to the body and courageously opening and relating to the uncomfortable/painful, somatic therapy provides a practice of gentle self-exploration toward discovering your connection to your truth, purpose and life.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
