I utilize techniques from CBT, Psychodynamic Therapy, DBT, and Written Exposure Therapy.
My experience working with at-risk populations has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the impact trauma has on an individual. I support and work with clients from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Clients can expect to enter an accepting, welcoming environment so we can work together through life’s obstacles from the past and help you find peace in the present. I believe that empowerment is one of the strongest tools a client can have so I help facilitate that by holding client-led sessions where I am able to support your experience and help you voice your narrative about it.

Immediate openings for both therapy and neurofeedback! We are a trauma-focused small group of therapists who are ready to do the deeper work in therapy to clean out what gets in your way of having an easier life. Our philosophy is to find the root cause of the problem and work on that instead of staying on the surface. We are ready to go deep. Are you feeling like something is wrong or holding you back, but you don’t know what it is? Are you aware of your past traumas and are ready to work on them? You might be surprised how much trauma is responsible for how we feel about ourselves and how we live our lives.

“Taking refuge” is a phrase in Buddhism that invites a world-weary self to find relief. From the confusion of life’s dramas and the pull to get swept up in them. Taking refuge requires building trustworthiness through a softening that happens over time in relationship. That is one reason psychotherapy is effective: The trustworthiness built by therapist and client allows for a depth of self to be known and expressed. Such encounters in turn build trustworthiness within oneself, for as our capacities enlarge, we enlarge. In finding solace within, we learn to live less fearfully, participate in relationship with authority and ease.

Historically I have worked with folks in the modalities of DBT, ACT, mindfulness, IFS, CBT and Solution Focused types of therapies.
Taking the first step to start this journey is something that you should be proud of and know that it takes a lot of courage! I have made the comparison to clients that "finding a good therapist is like finding a comfortable pair of jeans or shoes sometimes you need to try on a few before you find the right fit for you". As a therapist, I am interested in making things comfortable for folks that they can feel safe in the space. I have been in the field for almost 29 years now and still very much adore being a social worker. It is an honor and privilege to witness people grow!

While I am open to consulting with anyone who's looking for a therapist, I especially love working with children, teens, and young adults. I have a special place in my heart for those who struggle with depression and anxiety, and also like to work with those having difficulty with new changes in their lives. I offer a range of options for therapy, as I like to pull techniques from multiple therapeutic approaches and tailor them to the client's needs.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
