I collaborate with clients by offering psychotherapy integrated with artmaking and evidence-based practices, such as CBT , DBT and mindfulness practices.
Participating in therapy can help individuals to be healthier, happier and improve their overall quality of life. The therapeutic setting is a great place to explore the connection between thoughts/feelings/behaviors, identify triggers/patterns, develop new coping skills, learn to improve interpersonal relationships, process trauma and loss, and increase self-awareness in order to become the very best version of one’s self. As an LPC and art therapist, I use an eclectic approach to therapy aimed at trying to align clients with interventions that fit best for them as individuals.

I work with clients between the ages of 13-24, struggling with everything from mild anxiety and depression to disordered eating and self-harm. Some of my clients face pervasive mood and relationship struggles based in trauma and family conflict. My work relies on evidence-based treatments rooted in cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic therapies including DBT, interpersonal therapy, and family systems. I work well in building a safe and trusting space in therapy, especially for clients who have complex histories.

I have experience implementing CBT, DBT, ACT, Solution Focused, and Motivational Interviewing.
Unfortunately previous negative experiences with counseling can impact one's decision to seek out treatment again. Therapy isn't about walking into a room because of needing to be "fixed". Therapy is a collaborative approach that begin's with me creating a safe, comfortable, and non judgmental environment. I will always recognize the person before the behavior that we are working to change. My hope at the end of each session is to assist with enhancing your strengths to elicit long term change.

I welcome working with anyone interested in the therapy process regardless of their issues or goals. There are many options for coping skills such as from EMDR (emdria certified); Gestalt, Existential, DBT, CBT and Mindfulness. Past/ current clients have worked through generational trauma, disordered eating, sexual assault, family and/ or marital concerns, trauma, depression and anxiety, attention deficit, career and direction of life concerns. It is common to struggle with the first step of reaching out to a provider.. typically people feel relief once they start talking to and then selecting a provider.

There are times when we become aware that our mental health isn't where it needs to be. Life happens to us, and it becomes hard to feel that we have what it takes to manage or deal with it all. Unmanaged symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, and ADHD are just a few that can make you feel as though you are stuck in an unwanted place in your life. Some people feel too strong to ask for help, while others can't help but to hide and isolate in efforts to escape. No matter where you are in your journey, it's important to know that you have options to get from where you are to where you want to be.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
