Psychological evaluations, screening instruments and or testing help the therapist and clients identify areas of concern in four domains, that is, biological, psychological, social and spiritual. Based on findings, recognizing the primary area of concern and setting goals and tasks is critical in reducing mental health symptoms that are most debilitating to the client. Her specialty is in treating people with addiction and underlying disorders such as ADHD, depression, anxiety and trauma.

By working with a counselor you are taking the first important step in overcoming your challenges. Your journey in addressing these challenges is important to me and I look forward to working together with you in achieving improved emotional health and functioning.

In a world full of AI, sometimes you need to talk to a real person. We are so busy with work, scrolling, and trying to keep up with the news cycle. It can be exhausting. I help people who are used to being able to juggle all of it learn what they can set down and how to do it without feeling guilty. Some of my clients are moms, others are bosses (some are boss moms!). I work with athletes, artists, and entrepreneurs. The common thread between them all seems to be stress, anxiety, and exhaustion.

I utilize several approaches like ACT, DBT, and person-centered therapy to provide you the services unique to your needs, as everyone's different.
I am a COVID cautious clinician. Therapy and reaching out for support is hard, especially being a part of the LGBTQ+ community because of the marginalization and oppression experienced when seeking this support. I am actively working to change that narrative and provide a space where you can be 100% authentically yourself without fear or judgment. YOU are the leader in your mental health journey and you deserve to feel that way. Unpacking trauma, learning to communicate, and setting boundaries are things that I enjoy working with people on, though there are many other things.

After 27 years as a high school teacher, I followed my long-held interest and returned to school to become a licensed social worker (LMSW) and a substance abuse counselor (CASAC.) I work with clients who are suffering from anxiety, depression, PTSD, trauma, substance abuse, ADHD/ADD and I also work with couples. I primarily use CBT, ACT and DBT. Data shows that most people who experience substance use disorders also meet the criteria for a mental health disorder such as depression, anxiety, attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (70-80%), or some form of trauma (50%.) Treating substance abuse means treating the whole person.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
