I utilize a number of evidenced- based techniques such as: CBT, solution focused therapy, mindfulness, DBT, and motivational interviewing.
I understand that making the decision to come to therapy can be a difficult choice. It's also a courageous one and I want to assure you that you are not alone. You may be facing many challenges in your life and may feel stuck looking for the answers. I believe that we all deserve the chance to discover the best version of ourselves. I believe providing a safe space rooted in mutual respect, trust, and free of judgement is the key to the therapeutic alliance.

We all experience times where we feel overwhelmed, stuck, struggle with a negative mindset, and need guidance to find new ways to cope. I am an active and engaged therapist that will work with you to provide compassionate guidance, unconditional support and encouragement. I can treat teens as young as age 13, adults, and couples struggling with a vast number of issues. Let's work together to pave your new path to thriving instead of surviving one step at a time.

These include IFS (internal family systems), narrative therapy, DBT (dialectical behavior therapy), and EMDR.
My current philosophy is that if PTSD is defined as past trauma experienced in the present via different symptoms, then every clinical presentation is one of trauma. Trauma focused therapists, such as myself, look at every client as unique and that they do not (and never have) fit into the boxes that other therapists have wanted them to fit into. Trauma therapists look at your past to better understand where your symptoms come from and how to resolve them. You will learn what you avoid and how you avoid it. Our hope is that you will work with us so that you can develop a more courageous attitude and face your unfinished business.

Some of the techniques that I incorporate into the therapeutic process include, but are not limited to: Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Attachment Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Integrative Psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems, Positive Psychotherapy, and Somatic Experiencing.
I use a humanistic and strengths-based approach in efforts to focus on what is working for an individual at the time they enter therapy. Moreover, to ask the question of “What happened to you, and how did you survive?” Versus “What is wrong with you?” In using this approach, it allows me to honor the innate wisdom of an individual’s efforts to persevere, despite adverse life experiences. I aim to create a healthy alliance between the mind and body to increase the strengths that exist within each of us, discover adaptive skills of managing current stressors, and create intrinsically motivating strategies for sustainable life change.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
