I am trained in EMDR, DBT, CBT and other various modalities in which I utilize to both validate your strengths and challenge you to process your feelings and thoughts at your own pace.
Do you find yourself shut down, unsure of why you are responding the way you are, suppressing your feelings or feeling like you feel too "much"? Do you struggle in relationships, life or day to day living due to your trauma? Are you unsure of where you belong? I work with people in all walks of life to process unresolved feelings due to trauma. I strive to provide a safe and non judgmental space, in order for you to develop coping mechanisms for trauma symptoms ( anxiety, depression, addiction, etc) and to explore aspects of yourself. I would love to sit down with you and hold space for you as you navigate your journey to healing.

In working with teens, women, and those with trauma, I incorporate polyvagal theory, faith, EMDR, dialectical behavioral therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy.
We are both wounded and healed in relationship. Taking the step to enter into counseling takes great courage and I'm honored you would consider taking this journey with me! I thrive in working with those who hope to heal from relationship and attachment ruptures, disordered eating, anxiety, body image issues, and trauma, all while using a faith based approach, upon request.

Some of the modalities I will introduce you too include, DBT, CBT and non-violent communication.
"Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without." Sometimes it is difficult to find that inner peace and we need guidance from others. I have learned throughout my many years of working with adolescents, individuals, and families that without inner peace, we tend to feel stuck, lost and not be able to live the life we desire. My hope is that through individual or family therapy, I can help you create coping tools in areas of your life where you desire change.

Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) for single incident trauma and skills training for interpersonal and affective regulation (STAIR) for chronic abuse, Trauma focused CBT, Dialectical Behavior (DBT) and Cognitive behavior (CBT) therapies and Relational Constructivism for grief/loss.
When we struggle to make sense of our experiences (due to depression, anxiety, grief/loss, abuse/trauma, relational conflicts or new life stressors), we may seek any semblance of control over our situation, grasping for understanding of all the "whys" or seeking resolution/answers to pacify the "what if's." Simultaneously, sense-making may seem inaccessible or impossible. At times, we need someone to hold on to the hope, cultivate space for us to explore & express our story while also learning new tools to navigate. I use a relational, trauma-focused and empathic approach, curiously asking questions while also empowering clients.

Practically, I embed elements of Cognitive and Dialectical Behavior Therapy while also employing other humanistic techniques that follow the existential framework.
“Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards." - Søren Kierkegaard . To grow and move forward in our lives, we must often look back with intention to search for lessons learned, strengths gathered, and wounds that need to be healed. My goal is to walk alongside you as you journey through the self-discovery of the therapy process.

Together, using a trauma-focused, dialectical behavior therapy approach, we reshape these patterns so you can experience more happiness, effective responses, and satisfaction in your life.
Do you struggle to understand why you sometimes respond to situations and events in ways that seem counterproductive? As human beings, for better or worse, we all experience people, environments, and events that shape our sense of self and how we interact with those around us. These experiences can lead to extreme sadness, anxiety, loss of hope, and serious struggles in relationships that interfere with feeling satisfied and living a fulfilled life. I love what I do as a therapist and feel privileged to work with people as they learn and grow toward who they hope to be.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
