Life is full of difficulties, disappointments, and pain, as well as growth, joy, healing, and adventure, and sometimes we need help bridging those two things in our life. In sessions with clients, I am committed to creating a safe and supportive space to collaborate on healing and self discovery together. Within sessions, I meet clients with curiosity and without judgment as I invite them to be vulnerable, experiment, and take risks. Having experienced therapy personally, I know of the importance of gaining a strong, safe, and empowering relationship between therapist and client, and this is one of my biggest priorities in my work.

My training is within Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and the Rogerian Humanistic approach has allowed me to be able to uncover the hidden unconscious spaces within my clients.
Aloha! My name is George Mataele and I enjoy connecting with individuals, families, marriages, couples and adolescents who struggle with everyday life functions. The client/s may have a deeply traumatic past and may struggle with Anxiety, Depression, Suicide, Bipolar DO etc. I love to work with clients who desire to improve, manage and control their mental health well being. Their goals would be to remove barriers that exist within themselves that perpetuate these struggles. My client will be open to exploring their own journey of self to find connection and wholeness.

I use CBT, DBT, and mindfulness to help clients process difficult experiences, improve mood, change behavior, and deal with distress.
When you’ve done everything you know how to do and you still feel stuck, counseling can provide a safe place to process, and help provide tools to help get you get unstuck, and get you feeling better, and more feeling connected to those you love. I work with children, teens, adults, and couples to address; depression, anxiety, grief and relationship issues. I also have special training in working with military connected families, expats, TCKs on issues of mobility, transition, deployment, expatriation, repatriation, and more.

Welcome! Please take your time to choose a therapist that you feel would be a good fit—doing so is vital to the overall process of therapy. My style? I want clients who are ready to learn, grow, and finally feel in control of their lives again. I am very passionate about my work and will give you resources in between sessions so that you aren't limited to progressing just once a week for 45 minutes or an hour. In this way, I try my best to be the "guide on the side"—rather than the "sage on the stage"—for my clients.

I work with individuals who want to make a change in their life but solutions and where to start feel far or impossible. We will become a team that will learn what you need and how to get you to where you want to be. Ideally, an individual working with me would be open to bringing nature and or movement into the session, however, that is not required. I simply believe that trauma, anxiety, and other symptoms can get stuck in the body and movement helps as well as nature. Walking creates linear thinking and fresh air can give a sense of calmness.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
