Although I have been trained in a variety of modalities (EMDR, DBT, CBT, ACT, Mindfulness, Family Systems, etc.
Psychotherapy is not always about focusing on the problems in life but is often more about solution building. Although it acknowledges present problems and past causes, it predominantly explores your current resources and future hopes – helping you to look forward and use your own strengths to achieve your goals. It works by helping you to overcome problems using solution building concepts to foster change and helping you to develop a set of clear, concise and realistic goals. I help individuals, couples and families find their way again. I am a LGBTQ+ affirming, and gender-affirming therapist.

I have training in DBT, CBT, Brief Solution Focused Therapy, Trauma and Attachment, Transgender Issues, and certifications in addictions counseling.
The desire to be connected to others is innate, and yet we sometimes find ourselves alone, hopeless, sad, scared, and angry. I believe that being connected to ourselves and others is part of the human experience, and recovery from symptoms that interrupt our ability to live our lives to the fullest is possible. I have over 20 years of experience working with individuals who struggle with issues related to depression, anxiety, trauma and addiction. I believe change and insight are possible, and freedom from pain and suffering is attainable.

I primarily use EMDR to treat mental health challenges and will incorporate other modalities including narrative, DBT, and EGO state work.
Our bodies are always trying to communicate with us. For many reasons, we do not always pay attention to our body sensations but when we are ready to listen to the muscle tension, sweaty palms, dry throat, floaty feelings, tightness in our chest, racing heart to name a few, it may be helpful to attend therapy to explore what is stored in our bodies in this way. My name is Lourdes "Janet" Camacho and I have been a practicing therapist since 2015. I work with adolescent girls and women looking to heal from situations that occurred in the past and impacts their current functioning.

My private practice concentrates with children, teenagers and adults, using the strengths perspective, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and the Nurtured Heart Approach (NHA).
My passion, since I was a child, has always been with working with people of all ages, and helping them form healthy relationships with themselves and others. While I have spent years working with emotionally challenged children, tired and exhausted parents, at risk teenagers in both the UK as well as in the US, my goal is to continue providing supportive and therapeutic approaches while also teaching skills and strategies to deal with pressure and stressful situations in life.

I use primarily Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to work with my clients.
Finding a way to live our lives aligned with our goals and values is one of the most meaningful steps we can take to decrease suffering and increase a sense of purpose in our life. Unfortunately, over our lifetime, we may have learned ways to engage with the world which get in the way of our own successes. We may have become stuck in patterned ways of thinking and acting, which become second nature and can be difficult to change without targeted work. This can lead to feeling discouraged or even hopeless.

Now Accepting NEW Clients. I work with adult children, partners and siblings of individuals with Narcissistic and Borderline Personality Disorder traits. It can be difficult to find a therapist who truly understand the impact and wounds of being raised in a home or being in a relationship with someone who has narcissistic and borderline traits. My work includes creating a healthy psychological separation, changing the negative internal messages, learning how to respond to others, creating healthy boundaries, stopping the legacy of distorted love and becoming your true and authentic self.

As therapists, we spend so much of our time trying to get it right, trying to connect, and trying to help others make sense of the world around us. All too often, we forget to check in with ourselves and ask “is this right for me and does it make sense for me now?”. As a therapist helping other therapists, I’m invested in uncovering what comes up for therapists on a personal level as they are doing therapy, how that story reflects their past, and how to work through the transference and countertransference that may be occurring.

It is difficult to not be stressed when you are navigating through major life changes, the demands of modern life and the various uncertainties that we all face. Oftentimes people go through life feeling they are never really heard or seen, or maybe they are afraid to show parts of themselves because it feels too vulnerable and scary. Whether you are feeling anxious, helpless, depressed, or feel getting through the day is harder than you’d like it to be, you do not have to overcome the challenges of life alone. Together we will cut through the mess to improve clarity and develop strategies to resolve life conflicts.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
