My theoretical approaches are evidenced based practices which include Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to decrease high anxiety and manage moods that interfere in the daily function, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to manage difficult events in your day that create mental chaos from traumatic experiences.
I am a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist (LMFT) in California. I have been working as a therapist for 13 years. In my work, I am fortunate to have worked with both children and adults struggling in childhood abuse, traumatic experiences, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, and mood disorders. In addition, I work with adults with Substance Abuse Disorder, caregivers caring for a mentally ill loved one, functional life skills, relationship issues, and parenting.

While I frequently use Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Dialectic Behavioral (DBT), Emotionally Focused (EFT), and Gestalt Therapies, treatment selection is based on clients' unique needs and tailored to the individual.
I treat adults suffering from anxiety, depression, and relationship difficulties in my midtown Sacramento office. I've found success working with intelligent people stuck in situations they can't think their way out of. I enjoy challenging cases and working with diverse clients. I enjoy LGBT clients, people struggling with existential issues, and busy people trying to balance life with career. I have extensive experience working with treatment-resistant Depression, Anxiety, and Bipolar Disorders and can often help clients with innovative treatments. I am also Past President of the Sacramento Valley Psychological Association.

My work comes from a trauma-informed and strengths-base lens and utilizes a combination of CBT, DBT and humanistic approaches to therapy.
Hello! We all need to talk to someone, so whether it's me, another therapist, a trusted family member or a friend, I am thankful you want to talk and take care of yourself. I am an easy-going and genuinely curious therapist. My goal is to create a non-judgmental space for clients to explore their issues, gain awareness of any self-limiting patterns, learn helpful skills, and hopefully laugh a little. I believe that with support and guidance, the challenges and transitions we face can become opportunities for personal growth and a chance to re-frame our experiences in a positive way.

I believe there are times in all our lives when we need someone to help us navigate the rocky waters of life. Someone to help us to walk our own unique road and discover our individual answers. I have worked in community mental health with adults who struggle with addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders, depression, anxiety, and those who are incarcerated. My clinical leaning is a Cognitive Behavior Therapy approach. I also use Dialectical Behavior Therapy techniques along with psychoanalytic narrative and solution-focused techniques.

From a culturally-informed, relational framework, I provide such therapies as CBT, CBT-Insomnia, CPT for PTSD, EMDR, and DBT.
Are you an "overthinker" or overachiever wanting to work through harsh attitudes you hold about yourself? Are you hoping to resolve pain from the past? Perhaps you need relief from intense worry, anxiety, PTSD/complex trauma, overwhelming emotions, depression, insomnia, or nightmares. Or you might be seeking to grow as a person and needing to talk through the complexities of your most important relationships with someone trained to ask just the right questions. If these are the kinds of issues you’re grappling with now, therapy is a wonderful place to start, and one of the most meaningful investments you can make in yourself.

My approach tends to be cognitive behavioral in nature and I use distress tolerance techniques (DBT). I like to tailor my approach to an individual’s goals & particular needs. What that means is that I like to collaborate with a client to find active steps to take to better one’s quality of life. It is solution-focused, and brief in nature. I believe that self-care and mindfulness are essential tools for quality of life, yet we aren’t always taught how to do that for ourselves. My clients say that I am direct, yet compassionate, and that they feel validated & empowered to make changes in their lives.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
