Throughout our lives, we carry within us the voices, the gaze, acceptance or disapproval, the expectations, and the praise or criticism of those who have raised us and occupied our lives. Therapy can help us discover and clarify these powerful experiences and grow in our understanding of how they motivate us, giving us freedom to make more authentic decisions in our daily lives. I view therapy as an opportunity to heal, receive support, solve problems, improve relationships, and escape problems and patterns that seem to reappear over time.

Life is a beautiful journey that aids individuals with being able to expand, and grow! From the moment a person enters this planet they have before them a blank canvas, and a set of innate gifts. Throughout the stages of human development, each person learns how to maneuver around the world, and to establish an identity. From time-to-time individuals may come across a detour, such as an identity crisis. It is during these times when individuals may feel that their life is falling apart. Therapy supports individuals with finding their internal compass, and establishing stability in their life.

It has been a while since you felt stuck, terrified, hopeless, or worthless. Yet, you have always been smiling to pretend you are okay. Or you are very used to distancing yourself because “nobody cares about me”. Life can be very challenging when you can hardly recognize the person next to you, more importantly, when you can’t even recognize yourself. Whether it has been years over the same issues and difficulties, or there has been a sudden tragic change to your life, believe it! You are already doing the best you can at any given moment!

Hello there! As scary and uncomfortable as it may be, I'm glad you're here. We are all a collection of our experiences. And sometimes those experiences can be painful and disorienting. Things can happen, relationships can be strained, and we can become overwhelmed, exasperated, devasted, or all of the above, at the same time. I am a firm believer that everyone can benefit from therapy. Whether you are struggling with anxiety or depression, dealing with severe trauma or substance abuse, adjusting to a significant change or loss in your life, or struggling in relationships, I would be honored to be on this journey with you.

Telehealth services only. Thank you for being here! My passions lie in serving individuals of the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities, and especially so when the identities intersect. Being a part of these communities myself, I have witnessed and experienced the varying forms of life stressors, cultural barriers, and systematically-placed limitations that create life hardships that require special knowledge and passion to achieve healing for these communities. I yearn to fill the gaps in therapy services that individuals in these communities face. I work to help create a world of healthcare that honor and see them as they truly are.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
