I have skills in dialectical behavioral therapy, experiential therapy, and trauma focused therapy.
It’s not working anymore. Maybe your relationships end up chaotic, maybe you are struggling to be happy, or maybe you have lost meaning in your life. Whatever it is, as hard and long as you have tried, maybe you can’t figure out how to fix it? I’ve been there in that dark place, and I found someone who was able to help me. I’d like to be that person for you. I’ve spent several years studying the pain people go through, and I’ve had my fair share. You won’t experience judgement, shock, or surprise. I am in recovery, and I am able to live life on life’s terms. Things can change, and hope is here for you.

Additionally, I utilize a trauma-informed lens, and often integrate DBT interventions when working with clients who present with trauma/PTSD and personality disorders/concerns.
I believe meaningful change occurs when client and psychotherapist co-create a space that invites curiosity, empathy, and introspection. To transform psychic pain, we often have to look inward at our ways of thinking, feeling, and relating (to both self and others). I strive to facilitate this process in the context of a warm therapeutic relationship where those with whom I’m working feel safe and empowered. Through empathic listening, skilled interpretation, and embodied attunement to the "here and now" interactive process, I can help you resolve debilitating symptoms and impart greater meaning to your experiences / relationships.

Modalities I often use are DBT, CBT, and mindfulness therapy.
I counsel on many sensitive and intimate topics. Are you struggling with marital issues, have an at-risk teen, grief, gambling, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, or a chronic illness? Is a relationship or career choice no longer serving you in a positive way? My office is a nurturing place that welcomes openness and individuality. I'm an outside the box thinker, a supporter of the LGBTQ plus community, someone who has a personal investment in your success, and can be the confidential sounding board that is difficult to find.

We’ll also practice coping methods, such as DBT (dialectical behavioral therapy) skills to help you take on challenges and feel more confident.
Are you an adult with autism or believe you might have autism? Does life feel like a struggle? Many of my clients have ADHD or autism, which makes it trickier to deal with everyday life. Add to that problems like anxiety, depression, or trauma, and it can seem overwhelming. You may struggle with relationships, sexuality, employment, or making sense of your own feelings and reactions. I work with adults who need support with these and other issues. You can learn to cope, heal, and understand yourself better. I’ll help you find your natural strengths and create a life that’s more meaningful and fun.

My therapeutic approach balances warmth and compassion, with solution-focused DBT interventions.
Many clients I see come in after suffering significantly from riding the highs and lows of intense emotional ups and downs and are in search of learning new coping skills, or strengthening existing ones. Some of these folks suffer from self-harming behaviors, suicidality, addiction, eating disorders, OCD, PTSD, or anxiety and depression. The common thread among them, however, is the desire to not only more skillfully regulate their emotions, but to ultimately build a life that they want to live, not just one that they simply are trying to endure.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
