I incorporate aspects of modern psychoanalysis, DBT, and ACT to deliver personalized interventions.
As we move through life, we encounter difficulties and may find ourselves engaging in actions that do not align with our values. Whether you are struggling with a complicated relationship, emotions that seem unmanageable or low self-worth, therapy can be your pathway to peace. I invite you to create a strong, genuine relationship with me in which you feel safe exploring what may be keeping you “stuck”. Together, we can build a life of fulfillment for you. I am here to create a warm, nonjudgmental space for you to heal from your past, accept your present and enhance your future.

I enjoy most working with clients seeking changes that help them overcome distress, feel good, and reach their goals. Reach out for your free 15 minute consultation to find out how I can assist you and if I am the right therapist for you.

I work with individuals, couples, and groups utilizing an effective and evidence-based approach, incorporating Rational-Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), Dialect Behavior Therapy-Informed (DBT-I), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) together to meet the unique needs of clients.
Supervised by Dr. Angelica Barrera, PhD., LPC-S., (Lic: 67547) . Each of us bears some degree of suffering and distress, which impacts our ability and/or desire to connect and relate to others and the world around us. It can often have us feeling isolated, angry, hopeless, and searching for a way out. Reaching out for professional help is an empowering step towards learning healthy and positive ways of working through and overcoming past traumas and negative experiences.

Body Image Group members rave about learning how to respond when people say things about size or shape around them. They have learned to change how they think about themselves, and they have reported feeling empowered by the sense of community found in working with others on healing our relationships with our bodies. My other specialties include Adult Children of Alcoholics, relationship challenges, anxiety and depression. I supervise Marriage and Family Therapists who are working on full-licensure, so I have been doing this fascinating work long enough to guide others to doing their best work, too!

Are you feeling stuck and ready to live like you again? Living with anxiety can be crippling. Watching your child struggle with anxiety locked away from your efforts to help is overwhelming. If your anxiety runs the show you know you miss out on friends, family, and unlocking your potential. If your child is struggling they may be having behaviors that you KNOW are not them but you can't seem to get a handle on. Anxious or traumatized kids are often acting out kids and getting them to talk about the real problems can feel impossible. If you're an adult with trauma you may not have learned how to do that either. You can be better.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists
Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.
Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.
What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
