Stepping into therapy and engaging in your own personal growth is empowering. We all manage an immense number of stressors in our daily lives, and therapy is a space where you can take time to pause, reflect, and grow. I work with individuals of diverse backgrounds—including adolescents and young adults—who are experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, cultural adjustment, interpersonal stress, and more. I understand that every client’s needs are different and use various modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Psychodynamic approaches.

I use evidence-based techniques from ACT, CBT, DBT, MI, and MBSR to support skill-building, insight, and behavioral change, and I help clients identify and build resources to support long-term success.
I welcome inquiries from individuals and couples seeking to improve their emotion regulation, communication skills, relationships; process difficult emotions and memories; increase their coping, time and stress management skills; and bolster their sleep hygiene and health. I am particularly open to working with people who feel stifled by the current political climate, those who fear being (or have been) silenced or "cancelled," as well as persons of faith. I am licensed to practice in the states of Maine, New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

I use an eclectic variety of evidence-based approaches including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), harm reduction, and trauma informed care.
Therapy works best when clients feel safe to discuss their feelings and doubts without fear of shaming, or rejection. I work to create an environment of openness, curiosity, and warmth which engenders growth and progress. My typical client is a self-critical, high functioning professional with issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction and substance misuse, and relationship difficulties. Many clients feel frustrated because they typically think through problems and work harder to progress. However, these problems typically respond to different tactics, which we explore in our sessions.

I have extensive training in CBT and ACT and was intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy(DBT) by the treatment's creator, Dr.
Applying a cognitive behavioral (CBT) approach, I work with clients to help them better understand and resolve the specific barriers that are keeping them from leading healthier, happier lives. I believe that a strong rapport between therapist and client is the most essential ingredient to a successful therapy experience. As such, I work to foster a safe, nonjudgmental, compassionate space where change is made and goals are reached.

Research based modalities include cbt, ipt, dbt, and act, to aid in adaptive and healing responses to emotional pain.
As a clinical psychologist, I believe that knowledge, awareness, and insight are the cornerstones of therapy. By helping increase emotional awareness and identifying their related thoughts and behaviors, I facilitate understanding of causes and triggers for anxiety, depression, and interpersonal conflict. An appreciation of each individual's unique background and encounters is crucial in comprehending how one relates to new information and experiences. I tailor empirically supported treatment to address emotional distress, and believe we are all active participants in our health and wellness. With the correct tools and insight, we can lead emotionally healthy, successful, and meaningful lives.

I utilize a mixed psychodynamic therapeutic approach that might include CBT, DBT and motivational interviewing.
You might not realize it yet but you know yourself better than anyone else. What I have found in my personal and professional experience is that the more connected and compassionate we are with ourselves, the more connected and compassionate we are to our surroundings. I am a Brown, queer, gender non-conforming, immigrant, psychotherapist. I practice from an anti-oppressive lens that acknowledges the impact of the many systems we navigate under everyday. Naming the impact along with an exploration of the self, can lead us to a deeper understanding of ourselves and our humanity.

My approach incorporates techniques from Psychosomatic Bodywork, Mindfulness-Based Practices, Psychodynamic, Energy Psychology, CBT, DBT, Art Therapy, and ITR (Instinctual Trauma Response) modalities.
I provide a supportive, holistic, responsive, warm space and help you develop new coping skills, awareness, self-discovery, growth, and healing. I believe in an individual and integrative approach and go beyond talk therapy; the tools and techniques will differ depending on your needs. Together, we will create a new vision of who you want to be and what you want to accomplish in your journey, discover your true potential, as well as to create opportunities, and achieve your goals. I often use the Positive Psychology field of theory and research, focusing on both individual and social well-being versus the stigma of diagnosis.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
