Welcome! I believe that therapy is an experience in which we work together, rather than one in which a clinician treats a patient. While the methods I use are evidence-based, my approach is heart-centered and mindful. Whether you are wanting help with anxiety, depression, trauma, abuse, dating/relationships, divorce/end of a relationship, grief or overcoming a block in your personal growth, you are in the right place. I practice EMDR Therapy and received my EMDR Training from the Maiberger Institute, an EMDRIA approved provider of EMDR Trainings.

I have worked in mental health for 22 yrs mostly in the Veterans Affairs Medical Admin at two different hospitals. I also have treated a variety of of issues, such as substance abuse (residential), PTSD, depression, anxiety, couples, relational issues. I have also taught psycho-educational classes in those areas. My approach is collaborative. I believe the client knows their story and experiences better than I do. I believe it is important to listen to understand and meet the client where they are at in their journey. Then my role is to facilitate and make sense of what the issue is that is causing one to be stuck in old habits.

Have you ever found yourself wondering who you are? Why you are the way that you are? I like to think of therapy as a place for self-discovery. I'm here to orient and support you during your journey of answering those questions that come from within. Those that might be too scary or confusing to try to answer on your own. My goal is to help you gain insight, self-knowledge, self-awareness, and develop the coping mechanisms you need to manage life stressors effectively. Therapeutic processes are a lot like rollercoasters: You don't know what your experience will be like until you give it a shot.

Do you wish you felt more confident and had better relationships? Does fear or anxiety hold you back? Most of us feel lonely, isolated, insecure, ashamed and misunderstood at times, which keeps us from enjoying peace of mind and accomplishing our goals. If you are tired of living this way, therapy can help you tackle the things that are keeping you from a satisfying life. I believe in empowering, validating, and offering therapeutic support to my clients so that they can move forward and see change.

Accepting new clients for morning and early afternoon appointment times. I look at everyone's individual healing journey through a collaborative lens focusing on mind & body. Our minds & bodies hold on to traumas, depression, anxiety, etc & store it. I will help you assess the true roots to your issues & walk the path of growth together. I do not believe in “cookie cutter” therapy methods, which is giving every client the same skills and treatment. Instead we get to know the client & personalize their treatment to fit their needs, wants, beliefs & life experiences.

Finding a way to live our lives aligned with our goals and values is one of the most meaningful steps we can take to decrease suffering and increase a sense of purpose in our life. Unfortunately, over our lifetime, we may have learned ways to engage with the world which get in the way of our own successes. We may have become stuck in patterned ways of thinking and acting, which become second nature and can be difficult to change without targeted work. This can lead to feeling discouraged or even hopeless.

If you're dealing with a significant change in life, whether having a loved one pass, starting a new job, or just adjusting to a new city, dealing with change is my specialty. Having completed coursework for a PhD in Depth Psychology and currently completing a Doctor of Education, I am skilled at working with various issues that I am happy to discuss with you. What sets me apart from others isn't so much the types of issues I work with, but how we work with one another.

Not accepting new clients
My ideal client is the person, couple or family navigating communication styles, life and career transitions, and relationship difficulties. They might also struggle with insecurities and self acceptance. They navigate social justice issues in their communities, families and work spaces. More than anything, my clients need to feel accepted and respected. They exist in spaces where they are judged and misunderstood. They are sometimes in danger of harm for the way they look, the way they love, for their beliefs, or identities. Like anyone else, they want to exist in a world that tells them they shouldn't.

Welcome! My approach to therapy is collaborative and relational. I work to support clients in developing an increasingly complex and embodied understanding of themselves in the context of the relationships and systems that they interact with. Through our work together, clients can expect to uncover habitual patterns of behavior that interfere with living the life they want, and over time to experience an increased sense of choice and flexibility in their actions. I aim to support individuals in developing a greater sense of comfort with themselves, and an increased ability to cope with the inevitable challenges that life offers.

My work is especially effective for queer (LGBTQ+) and neurodivergent people, including ADHD and autism. My ideal client may have tried talk therapy before but found it not to be helpful and is ready to try something new. I believe everyone has the capability to heal and that we all have a light in us that is untouched by trauma and adverse experiences, and my goal is to get you in touch with your own light again. My approach to counseling combines the individual's needs with awareness of larger systems that we exist in. I use a matter-of-fact, down-to-earth and sometimes humorous approach to talking about difficult things.

Change can be hard and scary. But maybe there’s a part of you that's ready for something different. Maybe it’s working through traumatic events, managing negative or uncomfortable feelings or coping with addiction; it would be my honor to provide a safe place where you will be heard, feel a sense of compassion and have someone to walk the path of change with you. I have a passion for helping people break free from the bonds of fear, depression, shame, guilt, unworthiness and anxiety. Often, this requires vulnerability and courage; but together, you will be able to obtain the changes you want and build hope, balance, and freedom.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Denver?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
