I honour your bravery in reaching out for help in a capitalistic, ableist society that favours individualism. I am so excited for you to lean into the support of a therapeutic relationship. The foundational element to our work together is the therapeutic relationship where I center your individual experience with consideration for systemic, cultural, and political factors that influence our quality of life and relationships.

How you feel, matters. Therapy isn't for someone who has it worse than you, you owe it to yourself to reach for the support you need to thrive. You could be looking for support during a difficult time or recovery after a difficult ending or experience. You might have some confusion as to why things are going wrong in your relationships, which you hope to strengthen or repair or end. Perhaps the pandemic turned life upside-down and you are finding your balance again. Maybe you feel disconnected, alone or have suffered in a relationship with someone who does and are looking for a therapist who can understand what's happening.

When was the last time that you felt safe, heard, and connected to yourself and your desires? For many of us, pinpointing that last moment where we felt true connection can feel impossible. Past experiences, struggles with self-image, or the ongoing demands of life can all contribute to feeling disconnected from our inner sense of security, leaving us unsure about our next steps.

Sometimes life is just achingly hard. Despite best efforts, the weight of our burdens can overwhelm us. When we're stuck in the dark, ways to move forward might feel impossible. Therapy is a safe haven to set down your cares, to explore what hurts, what's not working, and what you wish were different. It's a space where you're free to wonder, receive support, and discover personal strengths and possibilities. I work with both individual clients and couples, helping them move towards deeper self-understanding, resilience and ease in their lives.

Does your body feel "wrong" to you? Do you want a greater sense of peace and safety in your body? Are relationships challenging for you? You have done some reflection or been to therapy before, but something still seems to be missing. Maybe you learned successfully manage your eating disorder symptoms, anxiety etc, but continue to experience inner conflict. You continue to not feel at peace with yourself, you continue to not accept yourself.

You feel off balance with your emotional, physical or spiritual health but find it hard to reach out. When you do try, you may feel like you're burdening others or the idea of opening up to someone you don't know might seem challenging. This is why trust is at the core of my practice because I recognize how hard it is to share or try something new. Together, we'll create a non-judgemental space so you can feel safe sharing your hopes, joys, fears and sorrows (and everything in-between).

We all face difficult times in our lives. I believe, however, that we have the strength to meet these challenges head on, overcome our blocks, and ultimately benefit from these opportunities for growth. Of course, we may not always be able to see our way through these times on our own. A collaborative therapeutic relationship established in a safe and supportive environment can allow us to unlock the strength and resiliency we all carry within us.

Feeling secure within ourselves can feel amazing, but it’s not a given for everyone. Perhaps you find it difficult to trust others, or connecting in a meaningful, consistent way. You might be easily anxious, often uncertain and ruminating, frequently wondering how you’re being perceived. Or you find yourself distant, closed off, but wanting more. As a registered social worker for the past seven years, I have collaborated with young professionals as they navigate identity, mental wellbeing, work life, and relationships, so they can thrive with greater assurance, confidence and authenticity.

Are you repeatedly drawn into relationships with people who are cold to you? Do you feel that even people closet to you do not care or understand enough about you? Do you feel that you are at your core somehow defective, that no one who truly knows you could possibly love and accept you? Do you put the needs of others above your own, so your needs never get met and so you do not even know what your real needs are? Do you find that, regardless of how much social approval you receive you still feel unhappy, unfulfilled, or undeserving?Have you learned that manipulation and guilt are effective strategies for getting what you want?

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
Most Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are certified by one of the main professional associations, mainly the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), and will have a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) designation with their name. Social Workers listed in the directory must be registered members of the college specific to their province. To be listed in the directory, Psychologists must be registered with the psychological college specific to their province or territory.
Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given the considerable variation in professional regulation and prerequisites across Canadian provinces, some providers may possess significant professional qualifications without necessarily holding professional memberships or being obliged to acquire them. As a result, they may be selectively included without the "Verified" seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?
Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and supervised, practical experience that enable them to do so in Canada.
Psychologists have a master's and/or doctoral degree and have passed both written and oral exams. Psychologists are able to complete mental health assessments and provide diagnostic information to clients as well as provide counselling therapy or psychotherapy. Counsellors and psychotherapists are expected to have a master's or doctoral degree in counselling psychology, social work, or a related mental health discipline and certification by a professional association, such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Registered Social Workers possess a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work and where possible must be licensed or certified by the provincial government and/or regulatory college.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, the cost of a therapy session in Canada could be between $100 and $200. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. Some types of outpatient mental health services are covered by Medicare, provided these are performed by a licensed mental health professional in the provinces or territory you reside in and who accepts the assignment.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postal code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Professionals licensed by regulatory colleges and those certified by associations such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association are obligated to uphold client confidentiality unless there is a legal reason that requires them to disclose information. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there is the potential or known harm to the client or others, or a court order, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
