The Magic in Hypnosis is not what the Hypnotist does; the Magic is YOU! The "True You" is right before your eyes...Waiting to Emerge! I can help you look inside and uproot some of what binds you. We all have a story, some is known but much is unknown. We live in very stressful times built on top of past and dumped into our future trip. Inspite of the spin around us; hope can be found!

I am not currently accepting new clients. “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself as I am, then I change” (Carl Rogers). This is the work of therapy. I approach this work holistically, attending to how each of us is impacted by past and present relationships, and by systemic influences. My perspective is grounded in humanistic and attachment theories, and influenced by multicultural and feminist thinking, with an emphasis on counteracting oppression. Research has demonstrated that our bodies hold important information that contributes to healing, therefore I incorporate body-based techniques into therapy as well.

I am a mental health counselor, trained to work with individuals, couples, and families. I believe that every human being is fundamentally capable of experiencing the joyful and fulfilling lives they seek - sometimes, life makes that difficult. Maybe you are experiencing grief, conflict in relationships, or loss of self. Maybe you’ve noticed yourself feeling depressed, anxious, or withdrawn. No matter what may bring you to therapy, I am honored to walk along with you as we explore opportunities for healing and growth.

From the outside it seems like you have it all together, so why aren't you content? Maybe it's work, your relationships, or something else you can't quite put your finger on. Maybe you're struggling with feelings of sadness, unfulfillment, or pain. Maybe you find it difficult to relax, be present, and are constantly looking forward to when you'll finally be happy. Whatever it is, it doesn't feel good, and it definitely doesn't have to be this way. In therapy, I will work to build a collaborative relationship where we can explore these feelings together, and help you to tap into a life that holds more meaning, ease, and fulfilment.

Do you feel like nobody really sees you? Are you afraid that if they do, they’ll turn away? Sometimes we find ourselves putting on a “perfect” face because inside, we feel anything but. We lash out at the people close to us and then we feel confused and guilty. Maybe you’ve begun to notice some relationship patterns that no longer serve you. Maybe anxiety is holding you back from living a full life. Or maybe unprocessed trauma or grief are showing up in distressing ways. Therapy can help you get unstuck and move from feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, and not-enough to balanced, engaged, and whole. I’ve got you.

I am currently accepting new clients. I specialize in working with people who have tried "everything"... every medication, every diet trend, different types of doctors (and therapists)...and describe themselves as "broken" in some way. I start by looking for hypoglycemia, nutrient deficits, inflammation, and hormonal dysregulation. These are often overlooked contributors to fatigue, depression, brain fog, anxiety, and insomnia, which medication and therapy can not directly address.

I too am a Woman, Mother, Partner, Daughter, Sister and Friend. I marvel at the mysteries of women and the sacred bonds they have with their children. I admire any woman who has dared to love and had their heart broken. I rise and walk with my sisters when they fall from the pressures of everyday life. I seek to understand how I can be of service to women and children of my community. I listen, wholeheartedly to the cry of grief when it seems like no one else seems to be listening. I am here to hold the space for you and yours.

I have 30 years experience working with children, adolescents, adults and families in community as well as out-patient and in-patient settings . Geographically, I've worked with families and trained workers in Seattle, New York, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. I've done in-home work in the Bronx, and helped develop policy all over the country. I am now in private practice and address issues that can affect us all, such as, anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD and most mental health issues.

I am passionate about working with clients when they are in their season of change, whether that is work and relationship transitions, questioning and addressing gender and sexuality, and testing the waters about how to feel differently about their story up to this point.

To quote Mariah Carey, “Love takes time.” I am a relational therapist, which means our working relationship and your relationships with others are incredibly important to me. Building relationships takes time and trust. Perhaps you have some life experiences that cause you to distrust others and maybe even distrust yourself. Maybe you're feeling anxious or depressed. I want to work with you to heal old hurts, understand current experiences, and help you learn to live and love fully. Reliving the past can be painful, but there is knowledge to gain from it. And maybe, in time, more love for yourself.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Tacoma?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
