People often come to me after spending years with other therapists, feeling like they haven't made any progress with issues of trauma from childhood or past relationships or things they've witnessed on-the-job if they're a first responder, medical provider, journalist, etc. However, "trauma" can result from emotional abuse, too, not just physical and sexual abuse. It can stem from any authority figure, as well, not just your parents. Many of my clients learn for the first time that they have PTSD or a similar trauma-related disorder. They tell me that they thought only military service members got PTSD. But when we go over symptoms
they experience, they realize how impactful their traumas have been and how it impacts how they feel and behave today. In fact, according to the NIH's website, 7 out of 10 studies found EMDR heals clients faster and/or is more effective than CBT. And I use EMDR with clients because I've seen how well it works. In addition to trauma, I treat depression,
anxiety & bipolar. Please note: Due to issues with not being paid in a timely manner by insurance companies, I have elected to forgo being in-network any longer. However, I provide clients with a superbill (itemized statement) so they can request reimbursement from insurance. More details are in the "Openings & Insurance" page on my website, mindful.clinic

It's so important to be able to identify the emotions arising in your body and what sensations come with them. Only then do we move into the phase where we're targeting a specific trauma memory in a session. Some clients are totally done with EMDR after only 8 - 12 sessions, especially young people.
