I am a licensed clinical psychologist, specializing in the treatment of trauma, addiction, depression, grief/loss, and emotional dysregulation. When your coping mechanisms are no longer sufficient, and you're feeling overwhelmed, unhappy, anxious, or disconnected, therapy is an opportunity to learn how to increase your ability to manage life's demands, improve your quality of life, and achieve the change you are looking for. Therapy will begin with a conversation about your hopes for our work. Together we will deepen our understanding of your concerns, and establish new ways of feeling and being in the world.

Anyone seeking psychotherapy needs to sense a therapist's ability to deeply connect, to foster real vulnerability, without feeling judged. Some people desire help during personal crises or from a wish to grow. Others recognize a need for therapy after feeling stuck. Therapy can address symptoms that are more chronic in nature, which interfere with relationships or life satisfaction. Some people look for short-term therapy, to focus quickly on solution-oriented work, while others may feel more confusion about where to begin, needing time and support to clarify complicated thoughts and feelings. Together, we will develop your goals.

Our changing world brings with it joys and opportunities, but also challenges and anxieties. We try our best as parents, and caregivers to protect our children from the most challenging aspects of life, and provide them with skills to deal with the rest. Most of the time we are up to the task, but there are times when we all could use a helping hand. Whether your child is struggling with anxiety, or depression, avoiding following adult directions, involved in fights at school or at home, or something happened in their lives that is beyond their current ability to cope with - I am here to help.

As a trauma therapist, I work with many individuals facing deep heartache and struggles that sometimes feel too overwhelming and scary. Trauma can be triggered from some experiences such as past abuse, grief, chronic illness, or being a witness to traumatic events. This can also lead to symptoms of depression, anxiety, panic, fear, phobias, irrational fears, and agitation. Trauma can also lead to negative coping skills such as addictive patterns and behaviors. I can walk alongside you in a journey of healing and assist you in coming to a place of safety and peace and help you overcome and move you towards a place of healing!

How are you supposed to go on? It feels like your entire life has been turned on its head. Everything is different now. Your spouse is gone, and you don’t know how to move forward. All the things that used to seem so important to you have lost their meaning. The work assignments you once obsessed over are being ignored. The social schedule you spent such care curating now feels worthless. Hobbies are meaningless. Self-care is pointless. Friends and family offer their support, but it all feels hollow. No one understands what you’re going through. All you want to do is stay at home in bed and hide from the world forever.

I use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to treat a broad range of mood and anxiety disorders. From 2004 until his death in 2021, I worked with Dr. Aaron T. Beck, who is regarded as the "father" of CBT, to develop and evaluate CBT treatment protocols for many types of clientele and treatment settings. I deliver these evidence-based treatments in my clinical practice. I work well with clients who seek an active, problem-focused, and evidence-based approach to resolve their emotional distress and life problems in a warm, supportive, and compassionate environment that is focused on the cultivation of a strong therapeutic relationship.

The process of finding a psychologist who is a good fit for either yourself or a family member can be overwhelming and frustrating. I make it a point to ensure that clients who reach out to me feel heard and understood. Therapy can only be effective if it is a collaborative process in which clients feel they have a say in their own treatment. I mainly practice from a cognitive-behavioral perspective (CBT), but I also use other modalities in sessions in order to best meet the needs of my clients.

You may be wondering if you have a problem with sexual behavior or you may be seeking help for someone you care about. Did you know that mental health professionals believe that 5% to 8% of the population in the U.S. suffer from sexual addiction? Dependence on pornography, especially Internet pornography, is a common behavior for persons who struggle with sexual addiction. Often individuals need professional help since efforts at self care are usually not successful and failure only enforces feelings of shame & despair. Professional help is available for you, your spouse or a loved one. You do not have to figure this out alone.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Bryn Mawr?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
