I am committed to effect change through the process of psychotherapy using a direct, reality based approach. Although I draw from many different therapeutic modalities, my theoretical orientation is consistent with cognitive-behavioral theories. I believe social learning, modeling, and reinforcement all play a significant role in how ones personality developes, how one thinks, behaves, & feels as they get older. I believe refuting negative and irrational thinking will likely increase healthy feelings and behaviors that will greatly impact ones overall wellbeing. I believe that effective communication is the key to building healthy relationships, rebuilding severed relationships, & strengthening present ones.

I am a clinical psychologist with broad experience treating those who feel overwhelmed by stress, depression, loss, or anxiety.
For 30 years, I have helped the patients in my private practice to live more fulfilling lives. By reducing stress and creating an atmosphere of security and openness, I gently guide patients to explore the defining issues and experiences that are important to them. Nothing is more rewarding than to watch my patients develop a greater understanding of their emotions and thoughts, and gain the confidence they need to move forward in their lives.

The collective grief of the pandemic has left us facing anxiety and pain we may have already been managing before, but it's now magnified by the loss of so much of what we remember having. Emerging feelings can include grief, depression, relationship issues, parenting stress, and even anger. This can leave us feeling isolated and alone as we struggle to wade through the monotony and difficulties of our new every day.

I work with young adults on the various challenges that arise when transitioning into adulthood, including creating healthy romantic/peer relationships, early career development, and challenging family dynamics. I have experience supporting individuals in exploring their gender, sexual, and romantic identity development, and welcome members of the LGBTQQIA+ community.

Beginning therapy is a brave and beautiful step. My goal as a therapist is to help my patients utilize their existing internal strengths to navigate difficulties in their lives in ways that promote self-compassion, acceptance, and positive change. My clients have diverse lived experiences and backgrounds. As such, I approach my practice with an intersectional perspective, understanding there is no “one size fits all” approach for successful therapy. I enjoy working with a diverse group of patients and have particular interests in depression, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, relationship issues, and low self-esteem.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression therapists in New York. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
