Even at the hardest moments in life, everything you need for happiness is already inside you. My goal as a therapist is to work together with you in whatever struggles you currently face, to uncover your naturally occurring strengths in order to live a full and meaningful life. Perhaps you’re not living the life you want to be living. You’re unhappy, but you’re not sure why. At times, we can feel lost, numb, and disconnected from ourselves. There can be many reasons for this, and through our work together, we will understand what these are and how to reconnect, to live a vibrant, fully embodied life.

I am available for psychoanalytic psychotherapy to address life struggles, manage anxiety, depression, dissatisfaction and indecision. It is a brave and optimistic step to begin therapy which has the power to heal old wounds, renew self confidence, and expand emotional experience. I have a special interest in helping individuals and families improve communication regarding adoption and donor assisted reproduction. It is never too late to talk with children. Adult resistance to these conversations can reflect difficult life experiences, especially regarding infertility, including experiences of shame and embarrasment.

What challenges is life presenting you with? Coping with academic pressures in and before college is difficult. Adjusting to college and emerging into a career, navigating dating and relationships, grief, and the pressures of work life can strain our sense of balance. Post-divorce, many adults struggle with establishing a new identity and navigating co-parenting. In therapy, you can process your experiences and build concrete tools that help you cope. You can find a path forward to live better, with less anxiety and more meaning. You can thrive and achieve your personal, academic, and career goals.

I am accepting new clients M-F, 9-5! Have you have been working so hard to get through each day but are feeling completely overwhelmed and lost? We all have a tendency to put ourselves last, in favor of the many responsibilities we have in life but when doing this we lose track of who we are and what we really need. I specialize in helping people through major life transitions and the work of coming back to themselves and finding their center. If you are a young professional who feels lost, a counselor yourself, or someone struggling to establish healthy boundaries with themselves or others. I might be a good fit for you.

Therapy that’s more than just talking - Have you tried talk therapy before but didn’t get the results you were hoping for? Maybe you’ve made some improvement, but you’re still feeling stuck in certain areas. EMDR therapy is a powerful mind-body approach to healing that targets symptoms at the root. Living with trauma is exhausting and takes a toll on every aspect of your life. You want to move on. You want to not think about it anymore. You want to feel better emotionally and physically so you can finally move onto the important things in your life. You’re tired of feeling trapped by your feelings and at the whim of your reactions.

I work best with people who want to change their lives but feel stuck, confused and paralyzed by fear and anxiety. They feel dishonest with themselves and frustrated for giving up on their true desires. However, deep inside they know they can do better. This struggle is their most intimate enemy. They feel alienated and unhappy sometimes in their relationships, work, profession, and in their daily lives in general. I help them to feel more confident about themselves, motivated to take control over their lives and to make the changes they want to make.

Joy, calm, connection and hope make life feel worthwhile. Day to day difficulties can be tolerated as part of a richer experience. Adversity is borne through reliance on trusted coping skills. These are common aspirations but through the relationships that created us, circumstances that overwhelm or appetites that never feel satisfied, pain can seem too great, love unattainable and life timid. In assisting people to see how previously valid ways of living and relating may no longer be helpful and in exploring thinking that may not have lead to the desired results, my aim is to draw out people's unique resilience to foster change.

So many of us turn to therapy because we're exhausted, overwhelmed, or stuck. We're confused by our own reactions, beliefs, and thoughts. Often it can feel like we're fighting against ourselves and unintentionally hurting us and others in the process. Even if we have a vague understanding of our negative patterns, unbinding them can seem daunting. We're surrounded by people, information, and options, yet we feel more insecure, lost, and lonely than ever. Even the act of finding a therapist is distressing. But if you're here trying, I believe it speaks to the resilience emerging inside of you, driving you toward relief and change.

I believe that people seek treatment because they are hurting and want to relieve the pain. I help the individual or couple find a way to change patterns of behavior that are adding to the pain. In the therapy we get to examine feelings and thoughts as well as interpersonal interactions that are damaging and may be contributing to the pain. I believe that the therapeutic process is a collaborative process where the patient and therapist work together towards a goal mutually agreed upon.

My focus as a therapist is to guide people towards their authentic confidence while helping you identify patterns that are holding you back from a value-aligned life. I specialize in working with adolescents and adults who are navigating issues with eating disorders, anxiety disorders, body focused repetitive behaviors (skin picking/hair pulling), body image and ADHD. I am also particularly passionate about working with athletes and those who experience visible differences, such as hair loss. Together we will navigate how you can show up authentically in a world where being yourself can feel like a rebellious act.

We all have the capacity to heal, to change, and to grow. We are more than the circumstances that shaped us. I collaborate with each person, based on their strengths, to understand the context in they developed. Difficulties in life can make us internalize negative beliefs about ourselves; therapy can replace that negativity with awareness of our strengths, abilities, and worthiness.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in New York?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
