I see individuals with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, personality disorders, marital problems, relationship issues, interpersonal problems, family conflict, parent-child issues, and work problems.
I started as a staff psychologist in 1973 working at South Beach Psychiatric Center, an outpatient clinic in Brooklyn. In my 21 years there, I rose to the position of clinic director, which I held for 6 years before leaving. After moving to Westchester County, I became the director of the Clinic and Day Hospital Outpatient Programs of Rockland Psychiatric Center in White Plains. After 8 years as director, I left in 2003 and then worked for 10 years as a staff psychologist and supervisor of psychology interns and externs at Westchester Jewish Community Services in Hartsdale. I maintain a private practice in Katonah.

Why is it that the most important relationship in our lives is often the one that gets the least attention? Self-care is so essential, and yet many of us leave it for last or skip it all together. Many of us in today’s society feel enormous pressure to do and have it all, often at the expense of our happiness and mental health. The resulting anxiety, stress, and depression can be difficult to manage on your own. In my practice, I focus on the therapeutic relationship and interpersonal connection, as I believe that trust and an open dialogue are the first steps in achieving meaningful change.

Debilitating kinds of anxiety, depression and chronic pain can benefit from more targeted approaches, which we can discuss together.
The experience of feeling truly heard and understood is in itself powerful and healing. If you are considering beginning therapy, you may feel alone with your suffering, suffocated or paralyzed by seemingly insurmountable problems. Within the safety and trust of the therapeutic relationship we develop, I will listen closely to you and remain present with your experience. We will work together to gain a sense of spaciousness and greater self-compassion around the issues that bring you to treatment. I work flexibly, combining elements of psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral and mindfulness-based approaches to fit your individual needs.

I believe that therapy is a partnership. Together, we can explore the issues that are concerning you and the things you would like to change in your life. Through therapy we can identify and remove old beliefs, patterns and fears that get in the way of fully enjoying life. We can work in a variety of ways, from very deep work that aims to heal childhood trauma, to cognitive-behavioral techniques which address specific, practical problems. My approach is relaxed, supportive, holistic, empowering and nonjudgmental. I work with a range of issues: addictions, depression, anxiety, relationship and family difficulties and trauma.

Attention...what does it take to get our attention? Usually, it's something unfamiliar. I work with individuals who experience a "symptom," a grief, a depression, an anxiety, a life-threatening illness, a crisis in an important relationship; a time when you are asked to pause, to pay attention to your self and bring curiosity to your life. A symptom is an invitation to look at the story of your life and visit where you have felt alone and where you need to come home to yourself in order to make this issue transform and experience more fulfillment.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression therapists in Katonah. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
