I primarily work with adults who are dealing with anxiety, depression, grief, personality concerns, relational difficulties, and/or trauma.
I approach counseling with compassion and curiosity, with the goal of offering space for others to work through difficult emotions and experiences. I encourage those I work with to show the same curiosity and compassion toward themselves as I know this work can be challenging at times, but also exceptionally rewarding. I utilize psychodynamic techniques in therapy, which are targeted toward helping people understand how their unique history affects their present lives and relationships. Through this insight individuals can find healing and become more equipped to make the lasting changes they want to see in their life.

Main areas of focus consist of trauma, anxiety, depression, adolescent peer issues, relational issues, and development and concerns with spirituality.
My approach to counseling is to use existentialism to assist the client in reaching their journey with the accountability and acceptance that they are unique and powerful. By using a collaboration of tools, the individual and myself are able to discover a pathway that requires hard work, but freedom in knowing that each step is celebrated. I value my client's journey as it is what has created their character, it is my desire to assist them to live life with purpose using their journey to succeed.

I specialize in helping adolescents, adults, and couples that struggle with issues such as depression, anxiety, life changes, trauma, women's issues, gender/sexual identity and neurodivergence.
My name is Savannah Corey (she/her) and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I utilize a person-centered approach to meet clients where they are, and believe we are the expert in our own lives. Therapy should be a place where you feel really safe to talk about anything, and I believe that the relationship between a therapist and client is a partnership where all people involved strive to reach the same goals. As a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist, I help clients connect thoughts, feelings, or behaviors to "stuck points" in thoughts processes so that negative thoughts can be reframed.

I have worked with a variety of populations and culturally diverse ethnic groups managing attachment injuries, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, high functioning Autism, codependency, grief, marital/family conflict, infidelity, parenting issues, self-esteem concerns, life transitions, women/men’s issues, and day-to-day stressors.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I obtained my undergraduate degree in Clinical Psychology and graduate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. My therapy approach is taken from an attachment theory and perspective. I believe humans are wired to feel connected, and that we all greatly benefit from healthy relationships. Without this connectedness, we may experience loneliness or isolation. I provide a safe, accepting space for individuals, couples, and families using a positive Existential Therapy Model to support self-awareness, meaningful relationships, and values of life.

Life experiences such as grief, loss and trauma can all contribute to the overwhelming feeling and sense of disconnection from others, difficulty with emotional regulation, and relationship challenges. We believe in the importance of not only addressing immediate needs but identifying and working through the root causes of challenges to make lasting changes. We enjoy working with adolescents, adults, and families to process trauma, interpersonal conflict, relationship challenges, and grief/loss.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
