I specialize in the treatment of depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation/self-harm, grief/loss, and trauma.
As parents, we can feel overwhelmed by the task of raising successful, happy children and life these days sure doesn't make it any easier. My goal as a therapist is to provide kids, teens, and adults with tools to not only heal, but to thrive.

I have special interest for working with young adults going through transitional phases of life, as well as working with people with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, and those in the LGBTQ+ community.
Your mental health matters! I'm here to help! Taking the next step can be intimidating and difficult, but a different perspective may help you create balance and a renewed sense of stability. It is my intention to help you expand your life beyond the “couch,” where even the smallest of adjustments can make a huge impact. One of the most crucial parts of the therapeutic process is connection. I approach each session with warmth and an empathetic, listening ear to provide you a space where you feel heard, understood, and hopeful for your future.

Whether you are working through anxiety, depression, identity crisis, trauma, grief, relationships or heartache; I would love to listen to your story and help you discover new ways to grow.
All of our stories are different. We have parts of our stories that are bright and beautiful, but we also have parts of our stories that are dark and painful. We may not have been able to control the things that have happened in our story but we can control how we respond and how we move forward. We all struggle to navigate through this life. This life is confusing and stressful. I recognize that you are the expert of your life, you know yourself best. I aim to come alongside you not only through the warm seasons but most importantly the dark cold ones we often find ourselves in.

My focus is working with women and LGBTQ+ individuals, especially those in the helping professions and educational fields, with special emphasis on Anxiety, Depression, Self-Esteem, Women's Issue and Infertility.
Similarly to many of you, the pandemic created an opportunity for me to re-evaluate my choices and to step out of that comfort zone and move towards something new. Exploring new paths can be intimidating but it is also exciting. What I hope to provide for each of my clients as we work together: a place where it is safe to be both vulnerable and brave as you work towards healing and towards your own goals. My professional mission is to help each person determine their goals and needs, then build on their strengths to reach them. This is never a linear process but I can provide an open, safe, and judgment free environment.

The path to a quality world can be intimidating for people. I understand how it can feel like it is one that you are on alone. My work with diverse groups: adolescents, people that identify as BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ individuals and couples, and people with disabilities (PWDs) informs me of some of these challenges. My experience supporting clients in their path to wellness through anxiety, depression, trauma, disability acceptance, adoption/reunification, incarceration, personality disorders and relationship/intimacy challenges makes me confident in the progress we can achieve in counseling together.

We have all been through things in life, and some items can be challenging to heal or talk about. Those are normal and validating feelings, but sometimes we need someone to talk to. To help navigate and conceptualize these experiences and gain coping skills. Communicating and healthily processing these emotions can be difficult, depending on our intersectional identities, to do out of fear of being stigmatized. That is why I am passionate about providing a safe space. My goal as a therapist is to help clients nourish their brains in practices that are best for them.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
