I have been practicing for over 9 years with individuals who have PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, marital issues, divorce, self-identity crisis issues, Grief/loss, LGBTQ ,life transitions, Court ordered therapy, career counseling, and most of all LIFE.
It takes courage to make the decision to search for a therapist. As an empath being a therapist has always been my calling. Having a connection with your therapist is crutial to the therapeutic process. Hearing your story is important to me. Is past trauma still haunting you now? Therapy can help you process traumatic events and heal. Is anxiety crippling you from living? I can help you figure out you're triggers and how to cope. Is depression making it difficult for you to get out of bed? I can help you uncover the root cause of your depression and help you find your purpose in life.

This constant anxiety, followed by crippling bouts of depression, is preventing you from living your life. Even on good days, your negative self-talk beats you into a sleepy paralysis. Everyone can be hard on themselves, but your mind has become downright violent. It’s exhausting trying to anticipate when it will strike next. You can’t trust your own thoughts. It’s obvious that your painful past isn’t going away on its own. It takes all you’ve got to get through the day. And most days it takes more than that. Stuck in a vicious cycle with no end in sight, you know you can’t handle this alone anymore. But what choice do you have?

Depression doesn't have to weigh you down any longer.
If you could runaway you would. (╥....╥)Things are overwhelming. Almost nothing is going right. You don't know which direction to choose and you feel stuck. If only you knew how to escape the same unhealthy patterns that you're trapped in...If only you knew what to say...If only you knew when to say it...If only you knew what to do and when to do it...If only you knew how to peel yourself off of life's boot you might be able to really accomplish the dreams you once had. Those hopes and childhood dreams are not as far as you once thought. Let me show you

These may manifest as problems with anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and/or the inability to maintain positive connections in personal relationships.
In addressing the concerns of my clients, I wish to meet them where they are and then walk with them through the journey of self-discovery and personal empowerment. Critical to this fluid equation is the cultivation of the therapeutic alliance and a sincere focus on deep, empathic listening. I apply the basic elements of mindfulness, whole person perspective, and cognitive behavioral therapy in a series of counseling sessions that aim to guide the client toward their desired goals of healing, balance, and improved inner health. The pressures of modern life can lower a shadow of despair over anyone's sense of well-being.

There is a path toward greater mental and emotional freedom and well-being in this life. Unpleasant emotions and thoughts can so easily fuel the repetitive loops of critical self-views, anxiety, and depression. Yet the human mind has the incredible capacity to be malleable, adapt, and change for the better.

I work both individually and in groups with men/boys seeking support exploring how masculine socialization relates to their problems, and cultivating healthier masculinity to heal themselves, their interpersonal relationships, and patriarchal systems of gender-based oppression in their communities. I also work with a variety of clients of different backgrounds and experiences looking for a therapist with an anti-oppressive lens, who will regard the client as the expert on their life and experiences, and see their struggles in the integrated context of the personal, cultural, and universal levels of their human experience.

All of my experiences have taught me the foundational skills that I use in my profession today, which are: patience, the ability to listen, the understanding that listening is as paramount as speaking, the capabilities to be resourceful, valuing modesty and humility whilst still being confident and capable, and having faith in my skill-set while still being open to professionally growing and developing.

Is your "stuff" blocking your JOY??? I help professional women and men who despite having it all together on the outside, are struggling on the inside. Because as smart, bold, and fabulous as you may be, sometimes our "stuff" gets in the way of us living, loving, and working with JOY. Maybe you are struggling in a complicated relationship, be it with a friend, family, or lover? Or feeling like you have no purpose in life or aren't living abundantly? Or maybe you are dealing with emotional baggage that just won't go away.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
