**I am not accepting new clients at this time** Maybe you've been diagnosed with a long term illness or have had symptoms for years and at times you don’t recognize yourself anymore. You know these health struggles are somehow behind your depressed and anxious feelings, and you feel alone…like no one understands. Right now, you may have more questions than answers, but one thing you know for sure is that you’d do anything to get your life back. You grieve for the person you used to be and find it hard to imagine yourself living a worthwhile life with this illness trying to drag you down every chance it gets.

I address a broad range of issues including depression, trauma, grief, and dealing with physical impairments and illness.
During my 30+ years as a licensed clinical social worker in full time practice, I have learned that vulnerability is universal, and also, that people of all ages have internal resilience and enduring growth potential. Unresolved internal issues often get expressed through such symptoms as anxiety, sadness, feelings of low self-esteem and shame, feeling stuck in repeated patterns of behavior, and in unfulfilling relationships. Therapy offers an opportunity to work through and understand, thereby resolving, these difficulties.

I have had experience working with clients with a variety of mental health diagnoses, but specialize in supporting individuals struggling with anxiety and depression.
I strongly believe that connecting with nature has a positive influence on both the body and the mind. My private practice is located in a farmhouse built in 1850, set on 10 acres of land with walking trails, outdoor sitting areas and gardens. I have four dwarf pygmy goats, Billy, Marigold, Juniper and Ivy, that live on the property, as well as my dog Quincy, who enjoys chasing the goats if given the opportunity. Many of my clients find it therapeutic to interact with the animals, or simply sit outside feeling the sunshine and listening to the birds sing during a session.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression therapists in Ann Arbor. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
