The decision to see a therapist can be a difficult one, as many people feel ashamed that they can't resolve issues on their own. Clients who come seeking help from me generally feel stuck in some areas of their lives. They often feel depressed and anxious. They are struggling in their careers, they are having problems in relationships, they are having difficulty adjusting to a new stage in life, and they may be trying to discover their place in the world. They repeatedly engage in self-defeating patterns and becoming involved in relationships that are ultimately unsatisfying.

The process of finding a therapist can be overwhelming. It is difficult know who could be a good match for you based on a brief profile or a photograph. Beyond this profile, I am here to answer any questions that you may have. My therapeutic approach is informed by my work as a faculty member at Boston University School of Medicine. I define my style as a balance of support, challenge, warmth, and authenticity. My approach is flexible, collaborative and extremely supportive using a strengths based perspective in an empathic and non-judgmental environment–and I have built my practice on these principles (a little humor doesn’t hurt either). Whether you are battling depression, struggling with anxiety, going through a painful loss or need someone to “just listen,” I provide an environment where you feel valued and heard while offering encouragement, support and some objective–yet caring feedback. You have all the tools you need to achieve your goals; my role is to help you rediscover those tools and your own personal gift of insight.

Zach has extensive experience working with individuals with mood issues (depression, bipolar), anxiety, and trauma.
My orientation is focused on seeing an individual within the context of their family, their work, their community. I will be a compassionate listener. But therapy requires more than compassionate listening. To have effective therapy is to be challenged in the way we think, feel, and live. My clinical style is to find solutions while staying rooted in compassion and understanding.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression therapists in Boston. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
