I work with adolescents and adults on anxiety, depression, transitions, and adjustments. As a LGBT allied counselor, I aim to support the associated challenges that my clients encounter within themselves, their family, and community. I also enjoy working with couples and individuals to make their relationships successful, enjoyable, and easier. In my work I have had powerful alliances and opportunities for professional growth from in-home counseling to in-patient mental health counseling to intensive outpatient counseling. In my work experience, I have found one thing in common: we all strive for meaningfulness.

Sometimes, life throws a curve-ball when you least expect it, and you’re faced with picking up the pieces and finding the strength to move forward. Whether it stems from a betrayal of trust, the loss of a loved one, a relationship ending, or an unexpected life change, there is hope for a brighter future. I use an integrated therapeutic approach to work with both adolescents and adults who are seeking help for generalized anxiety and depression, life transitions, relationships issues, divorce/post-divorce issues, low self-esteem, bullying, and general stress.

I easily connect with and help those struggling with depression, trauma, anxiety, suicidal ideation, and addiction. Mindfulness-based techniques like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy are very useful in the therapy room. I also enjoy learning about and sharing information on neuroscience and the findings that benefit our every day mental health. I love using meditation with my clients because the benefits are too many to count! I also teach my clients how to use cognitive defusion (looking AT thoughts rather than FROM them), present moment awareness, and acceptance.

I have experience with clients struggling with issues such as anxiety, depression, substance use, LGTBQ+ issues, life transitions, anger, trauma, interpersonal relationships, communication and existential fears.
My intention as a therapist is to create a reflective space and to bring you clarity and support. We will explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviors, and together we will consider whether they are working for you. We will expand your awareness of your personal processes and protective patterns, both internally and in relationships and how these play out in your mind and body. With this deeper understanding of your self, we will shift perspective and create more opportunity for choice. My role is to facilitate the removal of barriers that prevent connection to your self and others through a systemic and interpersonal approach.

If you are looking for a therapist who specializes in depression, anxiety, life changes, and helping people get over bad things that have happened to them in the past, you have found the right therapist.
"I don't know what's wrong with me, but I don't feel like myself." Many things can happen in our lives that cause us to feel, "off," or not like we used to be. We may think that we aren't enjoying life as much as we used to, we may find that we are too caught up in our own head to enjoy things we used to enjoy. If you are feeling sad, overwhelmed, anxious, worried, nervous, or having a hard time dealing with changes, therapy can help. Most of us want a life worth living: good relationships with ourselves and others, happiness, and motivation to do things that we want to do. If you're ready to make some changes and start feeling better, call me for a free ten minute consultation to see how I can help you get back on track to feeling better.

My experience is in treating depression/anxiety, bipolar disorder, situational adjustment, relationship and work concerns, family and anger issues, life transitions, trauma, and parenting skills.
I will work with you to bring awareness and insight to your behaviors, environments, impairments, and strengths. This awareness can pave the way for understanding the underlying motives behind your behaviors, as well as reasons for discomfort or pain, so that you can make the necessary changes. Together we’ll create a safe space to process, build insight, and discover new skills. I received my Bachelor of Arts in psychology at UCLA and my Master of Arts in social work at California State University at Northridge. I have practiced in CA, LA and MS in community-based mental health, hospital and in private practice settings.

My education and experience have prepared me to work with individuals with a myriad of issues ranging from depression and anxiety, to couple and family issues, as well as life stage and adolescent issues.
As a mostly Adlerian therapist, I will help clients to explore their behavior patterns which may be interfering with attaining their goals. In order to do this, together we will examine each individual's readiness for change, how fear/anxiety plays a role in keeping them from changing behaviors and explore interpersonal/family relationships. To facilitate the most insight and emotional growth as possible for clients, my goal is to create a comfortable, non-judgemental and confidential environment. Through this environment and exploration clients will be better able to set and attain healthy goals and lifestyles.

I specialize in treating depression, anxiety, adjustment to life issues, and communication and relationships. I work with adults, children (play therapy), teens, couples, and families of all backgrounds. Additionally, I work within your spiritual beliefs to address your issues according to your values. Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
