VOTED BEST IN GEORGIA 2021 and 2022! I have been in practice for over 25 years and after all these years I remain as passionate about my chosen profession as I did when I first began; perhaps even more so. Since 1991, I have worked with many individuals helping them to overcome fears, resolve interpersonal conflicts, understand themselves, identify and avoid negative life patterns and overall personal growth. I especially enjoy working with couples in helping them to understand and improve their relationships.

I am committed to helping clients find solutions to challenges with self-esteem, anger, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief and trauma.
Do you fee like you just can't cope with the things that are happening in your life right now? Is uncertainty preventing you from believing in yourself? Do you feel like you don't have a space where you fit in? Do you constantly compare yourself to others? Do you only see what's "wrong" with you? Do you live your life trying to please others? Are you constantly striving for perfection? Do you act out of emotion and regret it later? Do you find it hard to speak up for yourself? Have you lost interest in things that once brought you joy? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then please give me a call?

"Can you imagine life returning to a state of emotional wellness, or waking up feeling happy for no particular reason?" Don't lose hope! Beyond the pain is emotional freedom. Emotional pain can present as unbearable and never ending. A constant state of chaos can give rise to depression and anxiety; Feeling lonely as if nobody cares. You might wonder if life is worth living. Your emotional state makes it difficult to anticipate a brighter future. You may feel powerless and hopeless about life. You may feel numb and empty. Most of my referrals are word of mouth and my professional services will help to restore hope for the future.

Are you feeling stuck in a rut, depressed, angry or anxious more days than not? It's not a matter of willpower so please take the first step and stop beating yourself up! We were all created to be loving, connected, and balanced individuals and anytime we are not feeling that way it's because of our baggage. Professionally and personally, I have found that by combining IFS therapy with EMDR, many people are able to revisit painful experiences in a way that allows them to release feelings of terror, shame, and guilt and leave their baggage behind.

My counseling experience covers a variety of issues, including sexual abuse, adverse childhood experiences/trauma, depression, anxiety, relationships, communication, suicide/self-harm, spirituality, parenting, self-esteem, anger, and grief.
Life certainly takes unexpected turns! How, then, do we live balanced, authentic lives in the midst of intense stress, loss, and change? My goal is to help you examine, heal, grow, and gain perspective. Like peeling back layers of an onion, therapy provides clients the opportunity to see that many life events are interconnected by family patterns, past trauma, grief and loss, boundary issues, and learned coping strategies, to name a few. Therapy also gives clients opportunities to strategically prepare for the future, explore personal values and spirituality, strengthen relationships, and clarify goals.

I am a counselor who specializes in helping clients achieve their goals. I offer a judgment-free, unconventional approach to counseling as I believe therapy should be tailored to the person asking for help. I firmly believe everyone does things in their own unique way and time so honing in on self-identified strengths assists me with helping clients improve upon what they may consider their "challenges". I also assist my clients with getting in tune with those hidden strengths they may be unaware of. The hardest part of therapy is getting started. Book a session and take a chance. It is the only way to be the change you wish to see.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
