My area of focus is in helping you overcoming anxiety and depression.
You have the skills you need to achieve your goals. Often, we aren’t conscious of what causes us stress, nor are we aware of the memories that we hold physically. Life on the planet is stressful, I know you don’t always feel like like you have the energy to face it. The fact is that you do continue to face it, that's an accomplishment. My goal is to help you figure "it "out. So often in life, we become experts at everything except ourselves. Together we will identify your goals, and then we will develop the plan to achieve them. If you would like to schedule an appointment, email me your name, birth date and your phone number.

***Virtual online therapy only at this time.*** Life can become difficult at times. We have fears and regrets, anxieties and sorrows, insecurities and doubts. People are searching for greater happiness, healthier relationships, increased meaning, and rewarding accomplishments. But despite these challenges, I believe we all have the power to overcome. Hearts can be healed, fears can be conquered, and depression can be overcome. The act of being seen, heard, and understood is healing in and of itself. My approach to therapy is one of being very genuine and often mixing in humor.

ENDURING COVID-19 IS OVERWHELMING FOR US ALL. Our lives have changed so drastically in just a matter of weeks - isolation, job changes, school closures, social distancing, financial instability. It's natural to feel waves of anxiety, depression, fear, loss, worry during this time of collective crisis. These reactions and feelings don't have to hijack your sense of resilience and connection to yourself and your relationships. While it's really difficult, you can still keep your wits about you and listen inwardly. Effective support can make all the difference.

Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or depressed? Struggling with your relationships and not sure why? You're not alone. I'm here to offer you space to explore, feel better and thrive. You don't get a medal for suffering, so let's work together to find you more joy in this one, beautiful (hard) life. I believe one of the bravest things we can do is begin to understand our own story. Vulnerability can be one of the scariest, most liberating, and empowering acts, and undoubtedly takes courage - so I commend you for being here, wherever you are in your process.

I support individuals and couples in deepening their connection to both themselves and those that matter the most during times of transition and change. When life becomes uncertain, we often experience new or returning feelings of anxiety, depression, general malaise and even grief. Relationship with technology may come up as we explore what works and what gets in the way of getting needs met. Sessions will be insightful and challenging, as steps are taken to make change.

Common areas of focus: achieving satisfying relationships with intimate partners, other family members, and friends; effectively managing difficult emotions such as sadness, anger, jealousy, and fear; alleviating depression, anxiety, and other mood disturbances; learning healthy techniques for coping with stress; enhancing self-esteem and self-acceptance.
Clients who benefit most from working with me are interested in gaining self-awareness, improving interpersonal relationships, and enhancing how they experience life. Therapy with me often focuses on understanding emotional patterns and developing new coping strategies. While therapeutic work is often aimed at resolving a current crisis, many clients find that linking current issues to past experiences is helpful in promoting personal growth rather than just fixing a situation.

I specialize in anxiety, depression, past sexual abuse, low self confidence, trauma, life transitions and grief and loss.
We are not meant to live life in isolation. We innately crave deep meaningful relationships. I believe in helping people build healthy, deep lasting relationships and friendships. However, sometimes life happens. Attachment wounds surface. Trauma occurs. Life Transitions are inevitable. Depression and anxiety take over. These things keep us from enjoying the people and things we love. I take a holistic, evidenced based approach looking at past and present issues, as well as your emotional, physical, spiritual and mental state. I enjoy helping individuals overcome deep shame, insecurities and fears that they are not good enough.

Are you ready to dig deep so that you can make movement towards healing? Are you processing through unimaginable grief? I can help. I know that there are times in life where we feel lost, stuck, and overwhelmed by the complexity of emotions that encompass the human experience. Therapy can help you look at these feelings and learn to work with them, instead of resisting or avoiding them and arrive at a place of healing and deeper authenticity. If you are struggling with depression and anxiety or if you feel "off" and are ready to be yourself again, I'd love to connect with you to see how we get there together.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
