Psychotherapy is a conjoint effort between therapist and client to bring issues and behaviors up to the surface, to clarify, where and how everything from depression to anxiety plays a part in your life. First then will symptoms like self-injury, substance abuse, anger and pain subside so you can become more in control over your life and feel harmony.

Throughout my education and experience, I have received special training and certifications in Crisis Oriented Recovery Services (CORS), Interpersonal Psychotherapy, and Individual Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for depression, anxiety, and trauma.
It is my belief that everyone should confidently hold the pen that writes the story of their life. I understand that many of us were not taught the skills to respond to life’s challenges in an honest, assertive and healthy way. As a result, our stories are often told through the lens of events, traumatic experiences, or the people who surround us. My goal is to help empower each individual, couple, or family to take charge of their own unique story.

I have many years of experience working with clients who are dealing with depression, anxiety, life transitions, PTSD and/or trauma-related symptoms.
“Therapy, yeah that’s not for me”, may have been a thought that has crossed your mind once, twice or many times. So look at this as a huge step in the right direction for you, as you look at profiles and possibly make a decision to invest in yourself. I've been in your shoes and looking for a therapist can be scary and intimidating. Your story is for you to share when you’re ready and with someone that you trust . You may be at a point in your journey in which you are experiencing difficult and unexpected feelings and emotions that you are trying to make sense of or find answers to. That is where I hope to help you.

Our Center helps anyone suffering from unresolved trauma or disturbing experiences. You may be experiencing anxiety, depression, panic attacks, insomnia, hyper-vigilance, restlessness, rage, exhaustion, fatigue, or dissociation. We exist to alleviate the profound suffering of those who have been traumatized in childhood or adulthood. Trauma is often not healed from talk therapy alone. We use cutting edge trauma modalities that access your primitive brain where trauma is stored. Through this, you will release the trauma and all of the physical issues that go along with it, and graduate with a freedom you have never known.

Hello! Great to meet you here! I am a clinical psychologist! I am also an author, musician, and former co-host of a national “call-in” psychology radio show. — I've been practicing psychology for 20+ years. One of my main strengths is facilitating you to SEE your core issues quickly, so that you can heal right away. You ought to be able to recognize these after our first session! — Contact me if you are experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or you wish for sincere spiritual growth. — I facilitate your connection with your own intuition and authentic self (the part of us that was often rejected in childhood.)

In my 15 years of practicing I have evolved 2 specialties: 1. I focus on interpersonal connections - your relationship to your sibling, parents, child, spouse, partner, co-worker, and/or self that may be causing anxiety and depression; 2. I help adults and children who have educational, relational, and work challenges due to neurological differences (such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADHD, impulse & emotional regulation challenges); as well as parents of children who are neurologically atypical. Having these differences and parenting a child with these differences causes isolation, frustration, and feelings of being stuck.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
