Whoever you are, whether it be struggling with relationship issues, self-esteem, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, all the way to trying to come to terms with a more persistent diagnosis, I cannot wait to meet you exactly where you are at. I invite you to reach out to me in this time, as hard as that may be. Because this truly is the hardest part. And know that if we are not a good fit, I can direct you to other therapists that can hopefully be exactly what you need.

I've been an educator for over 20 years, at Dartmouth College and UC Santa Barbara, where I met many young adults facing stress, anxiety, and depression. Their experience inspired me to start clinical training in 2005 at the New Center for Psychoanalysis in LA, where I have also been a faculty member. My approach to psychoanalysis is interdisciplinary; I'm affiliated with the Neuroscience Institute at UCSB and was a clinical member of THRIVE Infant-Family Program in LA. My current research focuses on the links between biology, sociality, psychology and the environment. I specialize in infant-family therapy, adults, and seniors.

For many people it is hard to ask for help when it comes to sorting out the challenges of life. Making the decision to seek assistance from a therapist is courageous and can be rewarded with a safe, warm and supportive therapy environment. I work with people who often feel they are in crisis, experience anxiety or depression, have a low sense of self and struggle with the relationships in their lives but are motivated to gain insight and skills that are necessary to make lasting positive changes.

I work with depression, anxiety, and adjustment concerns, and individuals recovering from various types of trauma and abuse.
I want to create a relationship with my clients based on trust, mutual respect, and unconditional regard. I feel that if I can create this environment I can more deeply connect with others and hope to see things from their perspective. I believe that people have the inner capacity for change, and I want to help them be more able to readily access this. This can look different based on each person, helping people move forward in a way they feel will be most productive. I also value multicultural differences and in an effort to more fully understand a person's frame of reference.

I offer therapy for teens and adults for depression, anxiety, grief, loss, parenting issues, and life transitions.
Do you feel life is restricting you from who you really want to be for yourself, your partner and/or your family? My primary goal in therapy is to help enhance your ability to make choices. I use personalized approaches to help empower your bravery to look inside yourself. The authenticity of these choices will lead to serving you and your relationships in the best ways possible. Assessing our sometimes, self-imposed, "roadblocks" in life can help us build accountability for our choices. This, in turn, allows these choices to become "building blocks" toward lasting joy for each relationship creation of your choice.

I work adults struggling with life transitions, chronic pain, negative self-talk, anxiety, depression, stress management, and substance abuse.
"If the only tool you have in life is a hammer, everything looks like a nail!" Therapy is not for "weak" and "sick" people, but can be an excellent way to fill your "tool box," with skills to improve relationships, communicate more effectively, manage stress, emotions, and challenging life transitions. Therapy provides a safe, supportive, non-judgmental space in which you can develop skills, insights, and inspirations, leaving you feeling more empowered in many areas of your life. My training comes from 15+ years of experience in hospitals, treatment programs, correctional facilities, and private practice.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression therapists in Santa Barbara. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
