Imagine feeling peace-even in the face of life's challenges. Anxiety and depression. Relationship problems with partners, family members, or others. Divorce, death, and other tragedies. Imagine knowing you have the emotional awareness and the skills you need to deal with whatever life brings you. The wherewithal to meet challenges, to achieve better outcomes, and - ultimately - to heal the wounds that can make peace seem elusive or fleeting. The choice to seek therapy is itself a big step toward healing. My role is to help guide you as you move through self-discovery, to self-awareness, to self-direction.

I can help reduce feelings of anxiety and depression, increase feelings of self-worth and self-acceptance.
My goal is to guide my clients to be their genuine selves, to feeling whole and complete. Helping my clients reach their fullest potential is the most rewarding feeling. The journey to being who we are rather than who others would like us to be, behaving in a manner that exemplifies self-love, self-worth, and confidence is a daily task that requires re-committing each day. The wounds of yesterday must be healed in order to move forward. I believe the client determines the direction and pace to which we accomplish this knowing all the while, self-discovery and actualization is never ending.

I primarily work with adults struggling with depression, anxiety, panic attacks, trauma, and sleep difficulties.
I’m a bilingual (English - Spanish) immigrant, and as such, I have got my share of challenging experiences. Life has provided me with great opportunities to build skills, develop and practice compassion, and break stigma. My therapeutic style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating anyone with respect, and compassion. In therapy, I incorporate concrete coping strategies while providing a safe, and supportive environment.

I work with children, teens, and adults seeking support in reducing symptoms of anxiety, depression, anger, low self-esteem, emotional distress, life stressors, perfectionism, relationship difficulties, and the aftermath of trauma.
I provide couples in-person/virtual therapy throughout California. Interactions with a loved one can bring out the very best and worst in us. If the dynamic with your spouse or partner is a repeated source of pain, I am here to help. Instead of trying to understand each other, most partners make accusations & get defensive. l help couples to uncover feelings driving their interactions and reactions and then teach communication skills to help them transform the way they relate and connect. I truly believe that a loving and supportive relationship/family is one the most amazing gifts we can give to ourselves, children, and loved ones.

I work with clients who have social anxiety, shyness, and feel awkward and out of place. They want to feel better about themselves and their circumstances. They may have been through a difficult childhood and trauma and abuse. They are motivated to get better and want to speak to someone who is nonjudgmental and compassionate. Clients have opened up to me about their deepest traumas and secrets that they have not shared with anyone else. I feel honored to be part of my client's journey and help them to find solutions. I have a strong client centered approach blended with a CBT intervention based approach.

My training would be defined as "Cognitive Behavioral Therapy" but I engage in general therapy. This means that I will work with my clients to meet them where they are and use tools, interventions and approaches that respect their person and strives to align with who they are. I am here for the client and make it a point to engage on a humanistic level. I am not a therapist who sits in a chair and asks "how does that make you feel?" I am a therapist who wants to actively help you identify your goal(s) and come up with a plan for you to reach them. I will not waste your time and I am invested as much as you are.

I specialize in the treatment of all anxiety-related disorders, including OCD, Social Anxiety, and Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake. After developing a treatment protocol at the Intensive Program level that was the first in the nation to integrate mindfulness-based Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ("ACT") with Exposure Therapy in the treatment of OCD, I am continuing that work in private practice. My focus is on helping people respond differently to the physical sensations of anxiety, get some space from "sticky" thoughts, and to return to the present moment.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
