We all struggle in life, at one point or another. The question is how we navigate through that struggle. This is also why we can all use some guidance. I work collaboratively with clients to help them cope with these struggles, meet new goals and live an authentic, meaningful life. The foundation of that life is built on their self-determined values and strengths. I also challenge my clients to grow, seek out their strengths in all aspects of their life and offer them the emotional support and tools necessary to make deep and lasting positive changes.

As a therapist, I strive to provide a safe, supportive, open and affirming space for my clients to explore and develop a greater understanding of themselves. Understanding our past and how it affects our present allows us to begin to incorporate new ways of being that align with our needs and values leading us to live a happier life. In my practice, I aim to provide a safe, respectful, warm and empowering therapeutic environment in which healing and lasting change can be accomplished. I am a passionate listener who uses empathy to assist clients in recognizing and understanding their true potential.

Life doesn't always go the way we envisioned it would. Sometimes we can handle life's curveballs, but sometimes we need some guidance to do so. Whether relationships aren't going as planned, our job isn't as fulfilling as it was, communication in relationships isn't working, or something inside of us doesn't feel quite right, a therapist can help guide us through the issues that are keeping us from living the life we want. Therapy can help with a wide range of issues like trauma, anxiety, depression, career problems, family/relationship problems, communication issues, and many more. It's never too late to have the life we want!

Are you interested in personal growth? Do experiences from the past cause you pain today? Do you suffer from anxiety, substance abuse, or depression? Do you feel unseen, unheard, or unmotivated? In therapy, we can navigate difficult emotions, learn to recognize unhelpful patterns, gain new skills, and improve symptom management, among other things. I also believe there is a connection between our thoughts, feelings, and bodies; and, I find the mind-body connection helpful to explore.

I began as a teacher and since 2018 have worked as a therapist. My clientele have come from diverse backgrounds. I've worked with my clients at resolving symptoms of depression and/or anxiety. Often these symptoms have resulted from trauma. I believe that there are unique and important aspects to every person and that this requires a tailored approach for treatment. I particularly enjoy working with adolescents and young adults. My areas of clinical interest include parenting, trauma resolution, and the development of positive coping skills.

I specialize in relationship, sexual, and gender issues, trauma and attachment issues, and mindfulness. In our therapy relationship, you’ll experience connection, acceptance, safety, and trust; this can be healing in itself. We'll start by exploring and making sense of your challenges, compassionately and collaboratively. We can also use EMDR, guided imagery, and mindfulness to activate your mind’s natural ability to heal, going deeper than words, into realms of feeling, imagination, and focused attention. I believe you’ll find that I bring exceptional clarity, integrity, and creativity to our therapy work.

Is your child or teen feeling stressed, anxious, and/or depressed? Does he/she need ways to cope with difficult thoughts, strong emotions, a life transition, and/or stressful social situations? Does he/she want to learn not only how to cope, but how to thrive? Or are you a young adult (18-25 years old) struggling with depression or anxiety? Do you need support as you work toward building a rich, meaningful life? Would you like help processing traumatic experiences? Expressive arts therapy and body-oriented therapy are especially useful when "words are not enough".

Throughout our clinical experience at Better Lives Building Tribes (BLBT), we have learned that people are learning the most about themselves through their interactions with other people. But interactions with other people are complicated and people often need help navigating conflict, conflict resolution, and setting boundaries amidst already struggling self-esteem and self-worth. How we feel about ourselves has everything to do with our ability to defend ourselves, verbalize our own needs, and come up with creative solutions to our interpersonal hurdles. If you find yourself having difficulties with others, we are here to help.

You are creative and successful in your career. You've worked hard to achieve; you use your training to help others. You've explored self-help and spiritual programs. Yet it feels like something is missing. You wake in the morning with a feeling of anxiety or dread. In your relationships, you react emotionally rather than respond consciously. Although people enjoy your company, you feel lonely and unhappy. You suspect that the old survival skills you learned to survive a painful childhood are no longer useful. You yearn to change and grow, to live with a calm mind and vitality, and to reclaim the joy that is your birthright.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Tucson?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
