I work with adults, adolescents, couples and families who struggle with a wide range of behavioral, emotional and adjustment issues such as depression, anxiety, and relational difficulties.
Welcome... Do you ever find it difficult stop the exhausting ongoing negative thoughts on your mind? Do you dream of having a peaceful harmonious relationship with yourself and other important figures in your life? Or, do you simply wonder if therapy works?! Comprehensive research in the effectiveness of therapy versus no therapy indicate that, in fact therapy does work! However, you may wonder how one can possibly talk to a "stranger" about his/her very inner thoughts and feelings? The answer is that it may not be easy for some but it certainly worth a try!

I have the training and expertise to treat stress, anxiety, depression, the impact of trauma, PTSD, mood instability, and addiction using evidence based therapeutic modalities.
Hello and welcome! I work from a strengths-based perspective, helping you to recognize your strengths and achieve your goals in a thoughtful and supportive way. Overcoming life’s stressors and challenges becomes an opportunity for the transformation of a lifetime. As one begins their therapeutic journey by looking within, ameliorating the traumas and wounds of their past, and identifying their inner strength and resiliency, the beauty of one’s true authentic self emerges. It is then that lifelong peace and stability are found, and life begins anew.

I also treat binge eating disorder, depression, anxiety, OCD, ASD, mood disorders, and many others.
I strive to provide an inclusive feeling in my practice where everyone’s uniqueness is embraced, explored, and celebrated. I utilize a variety of modalities including Psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, DBT, and Mindfulness. After practicing for more than 20 years what I have learned is that therapy is not one size fits all, success and progress look different for each person, everybody is doing their best always no matter what, and in the end the best predictor of treatment success is the relationship we create in our work together. If we can build a trusting relationship then the journey will be successful.

Are you and your family having a “few” disagreements? Do your chores and to-do lists keep growing? The recent layoff at work stirs up pervasive stress and anxiety and adds tension to our family life. For many, this is also a time when old wounds from the past are triggered. I specialize in helping individuals and families who are struggling with anxiety, stress and depression related to their career, family, and friendship.

I experience success working with relationship and marital conflicts, and with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, addictions, and excessive stress.
Most people looking for a therapist do so because they are in some level of pain or distress. An effective therapy process provides the space for transforming such difficulties into the capacity for better coping, more satisfying relationships, and a stronger sense of self. I have dedicated years of training and experience to help with issues of individual suffering and relationship conflicts. I focus on a clear understanding of problems presented, and offer a process of resolution. I believe a supportive therapeutic process is most effective, and I provide an empathic connection.

The people who come to see me are bright and resourceful, but they struggle to feel better on their own. They are dissatisfied with one or many aspects of their lives, and often have symptoms such as anxiety, depression, addiction and stress. They have struggled with past relationships, and their current ones tend to be difficult and unsatisfying. As a licensed psychotherapist working with adults and older adolescents, I have the sincere privilege of helping people explore their lives and find the long-term, permanent solutions they are looking for.

Depression Therapists

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognize and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioral activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
