Have you experienced a loss that has left you grieving more than just the loss itself? You might be grieving a person you thought you knew or a future you always imagined. Grief might feel numb—staying as busy as possible to avoid confronting the pain. Or it might feel crushing—like you can’t do anything without being reminded of what you’ve lost. Maybe you’re a young adult who’s trying to figure out who you actually want to be in life. You’re noticing patterns in your relationships that leave you feeling like something is wrong with you. You’re wondering what’s missing, and you want to get to the bottom of it.

No matter what you do, it never feels enough. On the outside, you appear to have it all together; you’re driven, reliable, and hard-working. But on the inside, you experience constant thoughts of self-doubt that keep you up at night. Your relentless self-criticism gets in the way of the life you want in so many ways. You feel drained, burnt out, and in a constant state of stress and overwhelm. To not feel even more overwhelmed, you tend to push your emotions to the side and feel alone in your experience. Sound familiar?

We live in a world plagued by disconnection. Chances are if you have experienced any trauma, you are a pro at disconnecting from your emotions, as well as the lived experience of your body. Trauma survivors are intelligent, complex beings and experts at surviving, even at the expense of connection with themselves. I believe the healing journey isn’t about rehashing your trauma, forcing emotional release, or replaying your emotional responses over and over again. I believe the healing journey is about reconnecting to the truest experience of who you are.

I am passionate about working with neurodivergent folks (Autism, ADHD, OCD et al). I also frequently work with couples and polycules, as well as individuals who identify as LGBTQ+ and/or nerdy creatives. When working with couples and relationships, I'm passionate about facilitating improved communication to resolve a recurring area of friction, cultivating awareness of unhelpful patterns so we can break them, and deepening the friendship and intimacy in the relationship. I frequently work with relationships where one or more partner is neurodivergent. I also offer online therapy groups for ADHD and Autistic folks.

Do you second-guess your decisions while also dreading the future? Maybe it’s too hard to get going in the morning because you’re not sure what matters anymore. I’m guessing you’ve perhaps tried therapy or other treatments which may have helped temporarily, while your life eventually returned to the status quo. I’ve seen many people suffer for too long unnecessarily. That’s what makes me passionate about providing therapy that really makes a difference. I offer effective treatments for anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief, and more. I also support those in the LGBTQ community, who may deal with these and other challenges.

Anyone that is struggling with stress, burn out, anxiety and overwhelm. I want to be able to help a client that is externally organized to become more internally organized. My belief about anxiety and how I help to treat it, is to find ways to release the trapped emotions that are held in the body.

We all do our best to cope with the ongoing problems and stressors in our lives. Sometimes we find ourselves feeling overwhelmed, alone, anxious, or just stuck. We may feel unclear about how to create the life we want and unsure how to feel better. With a collaborative and strengths-based approach, we will work together to develop a greater understanding of what contributes to your present challenges, while also building an attainable vision for the future.

Maybe you're newly single, or new to town, and you despair because you're lonely, you feel lost, and you wonder if things will ever get better. Perhaps you have a history of complicated relationships, and you've noticed you repeat the same cycle but can't stop. Or could it be you say yes... to everything and everyone, and now you're burned out and resentful. Getting up in the morning is a struggle. You're on the verge of crying. You're lashing out. Whatever is going on, your situation is leaving you anxious, discouraged, and even hopeless at times. Sometimes life circumstances feel overwhelming, confusing, or just plain hard.

You may be anxious about therapy, so let’s address some common ‘what ifs’ about judgement or failure. I’m here to be present for you; to listen with an open mind and open heart. I will have human reactions to things you say, not because I'm judging you but because I'm fully engaged in hearing your story. There is no such thing as failing at therapy because every conversation is impactful. And yes, it's true that you may feel worse before you feel better, and I promise to guide you along the way. What if we're not a good fit? Don’t worry, I’ll do my best to help you find a therapist better suited for you. You deserve to be well.

I see the human hunger for self-acceptance in my work with adults; the frustration of trying to make changes while barely keeping up. I offer an environment where you may start from where you are. Pause. Breath. Return to the curiosity present before self-doubt emerged. One achievable step at a time. I use a Systems-oriented approach, which is an active, alive means of strengthening the connections between our "logical" left or cognitive brain; and our more sensate, creative right aspects. I see my anxious, depressed, stuck, or confused clients access personal common sense.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Austin?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
