Updated 04/2024: I am currently accepting new clients. Searching for a therapist is not easy! I recognize this and will respond to therapy inquiries within two business days. If you're searching for a therapist, my guess is you've tried everything else and the feelings of overwhelm simply won't go away. Maybe your mind is holding on to the same negative thought; it feels heavy, and it’s exhausting. You might be looking for a safe place to simply catch your breath – a place to process and re-group. This is where our path cross.

My ideal client comes into therapy ready to make changes to better themselves. This may look like taking risks, expressing authenticity and being open to applying skills learned in therapy, outside of the room. It is important that the client remembers to bring their true self into them room, flaws and all. Only then can we begin to heal, grow and thrive.

My clients come from many walks of life but have one thing in common - they would like to improve their overall quality of life. Perhaps the wounds from their past or stressors from their present are adversely impacting their lives. My goal is to work collaboratively with my clients to improve their current level of functioning. My practice includes working with adults, college students, adolescents, couples, and families. I also co-lead groups with my husband who is also a psychotherapist, and I work with master's level and doctorate interns who are completing their therapy/supervison hours for licensing.

My approach is humanistic, client-centered, and framed by compassion. My focus is on fostering an open, supportive therapeutic environment that welcomes curiosity, and encourages clients to try on new patterns of thinking and behavior. Making even gentle changes takes effort and practice; no one wants to feel discouraged or stuck in a painful place, and I like to honor that wish to decrease distress and find greater contentment.

Life is a beautiful journey that aids individuals with being able to expand, and grow! From the moment a person enters this planet they have before them a blank canvas, and a set of innate gifts. Throughout the stages of human development, each person learns how to maneuver around the world, and to establish an identity. From time-to-time individuals may come across a detour, such as an identity crisis. It is during these times when individuals may feel that their life is falling apart. Therapy supports individuals with finding their internal compass, and establishing stability in their life.

I will join with you to establish short-term or long-term treatment goals based on your expressed needs. I do believe that our history has contributed to who we are today. I take the time to learn about your family of origin and significant events from the past, while focusing on how this impacts your life now. Awareness of patterns is especially helpful in breaking cycles of unhealthy behavior. My approach to both individual and couples therapy is attachment-based. The ability to connect with others while maintaining a clear sense of ourselves is a focus in therapy.

You're entirely powerless. You've begun isolating from your family. The shame is so deep that you're afraid to look them in the eye. They'll surely see the heavy secret you've been carrying. You've tried to be "good enough" for him, but the cycle of emotional abuse and manipulation is never-ending. You've begun to question your sanity. You made excuses for their behavior, his "moods". You've changed yourself to appease him and lost yourself in the process. You no longer recognize the woman in the mirror with her sad and tired eyes. You've disconnected from you friends and the things you once loved. You've lost who you are.

I am a psychological associate who is currently accepting new clients via telehealth services. I enjoy working with adults and women who are looking to be healthier mentally and develop skills to manage cognitive and emotional stresses and responses. An intention that I have is to aid clients in healing the relationship with themselves, whether because of experiences in childhood, unhealthy relationships or other significant life events that clients have encountered. All of these experiences can complicate the relationship with ourselves, but with a safe and supportive space like therapy, we can learn to grow, heal and repair.

As an experienced licensed professional, I believe that in order to experience growth and development one must commit to the process by being open minded and consistent. I specialize in working with individuals (adolescents and adults) who are experiencing anger, depression, anxiety, family issues, and conflicts at home and at the workplace. We will work together through the process and rest assured, you will be doing this in a non-judgmental environment with ample support. While none of us can change the past, we can learn from it and make thoughtful, positive decisions that will shape our future.

My purpose is to provide you a safe place where we can meet and build a relationship of trust, based on talk and explore, together, the hurt, the confusion, feeling stuck, and and obstacles that keep you from finding healing, meaning, and a better life. I meet with individuals, couples, children, and families to work on issues concerning family of origin, relationships, identity, spirituality, depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, and more. Once we enter into the client-therapist relationship, my top priority is to be with you through the therapeutic process, and to support you as you begin taking steps towards living the life you desire.

I firmly believe in the value of each person, and their capacity to change for the better. It is often difficult to know how to initiate and maintain positive change, though. I enjoy partnering with clients to increase insight into what has led to the issues they bring to me. Whether that client is dealing with addiction, trauma, depression, or another issue, finding an individually-tailored path to positive change is the goal.

Many of us don't feel comfortable in our own skin, feelings of anxiety, depression, unworthiness and hopelessness evolve. It may be challenging to voice our wants and desires in many of our relationships. We may be fighting with our significant other over the same thing over and over again and yet never feel heard.

Telehealth services only. Thank you for being here! My passions lie in serving individuals of the BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities, and especially so when the identities intersect. Being a part of these communities myself, I have witnessed and experienced the varying forms of life stressors, cultural barriers, and systematically-placed limitations that create life hardships that require special knowledge and passion to achieve healing for these communities. I yearn to fill the gaps in therapy services that individuals in these communities face. I work to help create a world of healthcare that honor and see them as they truly are.

I work with all ages but primarily adults and teens who are struggling with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, family conflicts, relationship issues, or school and work difficulties. FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Brea?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
