I believe in the human capacity to heal, accept, love, and grow from our life experiences. Our most treasured beliefs and relationships help us through the pain and difficult times in life. I believe there is no point so low from which we cannot only recover, but gain wisdom and strength as well. Therefore, I focus my treatment style on emotional and character growth, rather than simple symptom reduction.
I am a traditional psychodynamic therapist in that I consider both conscious, rational expression and the unconsious needs and conflicts of my clients. While talking is the primary modality of therapy I use with adults, art, music, and literature are often important suppliments when addressing the whole person.
Because I received much of my training at an agency that did not believe in the use of drugs, I am very experienced at working with clients who wish to be treated without them. Additionally, client privacy is a top priority of my work.
