Finding someone to speak with and asking for help is a courageous step. I understand how it can be to share personal information with someone you have just met and I will hold this position with respect. Many people come to therapy for support with anxiety, depression, stress, loss and relationship issues. For some, therapy is more about understanding themselves, changing patterns of behavior that are outdated and they are making efforts to move forward. Therapy is not about advice giving, although many times, problem solving is part of the process. Change seems more likely when there is someone listening to us and we feel encouraged. It's also useful to speak with someone who has knowledge of the most effective strategies for change. It is my hope that whatever your reason for seeking therapy, together we can create a useful experience for you.
I received both my Bachelors degree (1994) and Masters degree (1997) in Social Work with an emphasis on Families. My experience has been working in non profit agencies, county mental health and in medical settings. I utilize a variety of models which are relational, grounding and research based to adults, families. These models include (but are not limited to); Mindfulness Practice, EMDR and EFT (Emotional Focused Therapy).
I operate from the assumption that our emotional and psychological health naturally moves toward health and growth, especially when we feel safe and seen. Overall, this is the foundation for therapy.
