I am a licensed psychotherapist specializing in depression, anxiety, relationship issues and eating disorders. I have worked in private practice for years and as a consulting therapist with the Eating Disorder Resource Center. I have a Master's Degree in Social Work from Columbia University and advanced study in psychoanalysis from the Postgraduate Center for Mental Health. This training has taught me to appreciate the formative role our early life and family experience plays in our emotional and psychological development. I enjoy working with people who are curious about themselves and their emotional struggles and are willing to look more closely at what motivates them.
When working with eating disorders, I address the thoughts and feelings that trigger the symptoms, e.g. restricting, bingeing etc., but also aim to understand their psychological meaning and function. I'm interested in why my patient developed the particular disorder and its impact on current life experience and relationships.
I encourage my patients to pay attention to both their conscious experience and to those feelings and thoughts that are outside their awareness. I believe that in my role as a warm and caring therapist, actively engaged with my patients, I can help to facilitate meaningful and lasting change.

Groups
I run a psychotherapy group for women with eating
The group is for women with varying kinds of eating disorders and body image issues. It meets on Wednesday evenings and costs $60/ group. It is psychodynamic in nature and promotes a collaborative experience among members. We look at specific behavioral problems, but also attempt to understand them in a larger emotional and psychological context.
