My ideal client may come to therapy for anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, relationship or work issues. For example, they may have social anxiety and want to learn coping skills. They might want to broaden their social support, and improve their self-esteem. Their goals might be to learn relaxation techniques to reduce stress. A long-term goal might be to better understand where their anxiety came from in the first place. They would be interactive and willing to take action toward their goals, viewing me as a helper rather than a fixer.
My approach would be to understand my client’s current issues, but also their life as a whole. What was their family like? What messages did they get about themselves from their early life that might affect the way they see themselves now? I would use CBT and EMDR strategies to help them understand how core beliefs formed by early trauma still affect them.
Whatever issue you are dealing with, know that you CAN overcome it and live your best life. I will support and encourage you as you practice new ways of thinking and behaving. If you want to explore early trauma, I will be beside you to help you change the negative beliefs that have held you back and free you to be your authentic self.
