Aloha, my name is Kalei Piena (Deborah) and I have been a therapist for several years with a private practice in Hilo, HI. I have a degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, and I use a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach to therapy most of the time, but I also use a bit of other therapies to meet the needs of my client such as EMDR. I typically work with clients that are adults looking to change their behavior or understand why they react the ways they do. I try to create a safe nonjudgmental environment that feels warm and comfortable so the client may find it easier to talk.
I use a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach to most clients, however there are times in which that approach may not be as effective so I may use a bit of other approaches to meet the needs of my clients. I realized that I had been doing it already, so why not get paid to do so.
I try to review the goals of therapy in the first session and talk about a plan to achieve that goal. I would like to get to know and understand the client a little more so I may ask a lot of background questions.
