When these three words are together and said out loud, it can be a time of great sadness, grief, uncertainty, strong emotions of love, shock and fear are experienced at the same time. You ask what are these three words? End of life. It is a challenging topic to discuss, manage, feel and navigate through. There are many tenacles involved. So many moving parts. Where do you turn after you receive a diagnosis? Who is someone who is safe, nonjudgmental and compassionate that is understanding at the same time.
I am passionate about supporting people at the end of their lives. It started 25 years ago in the United Kingdom. I had an incredible opportunity to work on an oncology floor at a local hospital as a medical social worker. I worked along side of four incredible women and supported individuals and families in this delicate and tender space.
All of us have thoughts, questions, concerns, fears and curiosity about the end of life. I do. My hope is that I could provide a soft place to land with conversations about end of life.
