We can teach you coping strategies, such as mindfulness techniques, which will help reduce overthinking tendencies and increase relaxation responses throughout your body.
Overthinking is a common problem many face, and it can be caused by various reasons such as stress, anxiety, self-doubt, or perfectionism. When we overthink, we tend to focus on the negative aspects of situations and often exaggerate them in our minds. This can lead to feelings of worry, fear, and even panic. Overthinking can take up so much mental energy that it makes it difficult for us to focus on other tasks at hand or fully engage with people around us. It is important to allow ourselves the freedom to enjoy the present moment and find joy in life's simple pleasures.

My primary therapeutic approach is mindfulness , which in my professional experience has been applicable to a wide range of needs.
My ideal client is someone that comes in with an open heart and mind to what the process of therapy might offer them. Someone who is ready to be totally open about who they are - for better and for worse. Even when that means having to sit in the uncomfortable, because sometimes that is when the best healing happens.

I have additional specialization & training in career counseling, college student mental health, eating disorders/body image, mindfulness practices, Asian American and immigrant community mental health, and racial traumas.
It can be challenging to start therapy. Allow me to join you wherever you are at this moment, as making the choice to go into therapy takes courage and readiness to invest in yourself. For individuals who are high-achieving, we can sometimes be hardest on ourselves or be in an environment and/or relationships that are invalidating. This may cause burnout, feeling lost, or exacerbating mental health difficulties. My work focuses on collaborating with you to get unstuck, examining and changing things that no longer work for you, building a community of support, and helping you towards a path of embracing your authentic self.

Rather, I use a flexible, holistic approach derived from principles of cognitive-behavioral, emotion-focused, interpersonal process, and mindfulness -based therapy.
I am a licensed clinical psychologist who enjoys helping clients regain a sense of hope, direction, and personal power in the face of complex and difficult problems. I have over 14 years of experience as a therapist including individual, family, and couples work. I combine expertise in cognitive behavioral therapy and other evidence-based approaches with warmth, compassion, and a belief in the enormous human capacity for growth. I strive to develop a truly collaborative partnership with my clients to build the sense of safety and trust needed to discuss uncomfortable topics and take risks. Therapy with me often involves re-examining old ways of thinking that might be fostering negative emotions and patterns of behavior; identifying and confronting fears; and practicing new ways of solving problems in order to live a fuller, more satisfying life.

I work with teens using evidence-based techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness practices.
Teen years are pivotal and challenging times in life, and many teens face struggles that can affect their self-esteem and confidence and cause anxiety. These years are a time of growth and change, both physically and emotionally. Adolescents experience various challenges, including academic pressure, social anxiety, peer pressure, family conflicts, identity issues, mood swings, and hormonal changes that can lead to feelings of isolation or low self-esteem.

With individuals struggling with anxiety, trauma, substance abuse and other mental health concerns, my approach is informed by Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness -based Cognitive Therapy, 12-Step Facilitation, and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy.
I have been practicing for 18 years, and have a very strong expertise in relationships (couples therapy, relationship conflict, infidelity, divorce, dating). I also specialize in addictions and working with high-achieving individuals. My approach involves helping clients develop insight about why they are finding themselves "stuck," while also teaching useful skills that facilitate behavior change; both are crucial for lasting change to occur. Insight provides understanding and self-compassion. Skills help us function better in our day-to-day lives. My work with clients is empathic, collaborative, practical and often involves a deeper exploration of past experiences that shape current thoughts, feelings & behaviors.

I’ve been a therapist of one type or another for the past 30 years. I’m currently seeing patients for a number of reasons, some rather moderate and some fairly severe. I have extension experience with addictive thinking, anxiety (including compulsive behaviors), depression, existential or interpersonal concerns, bi-polar depression, mindfulness and anger. As a rule, I don’t see couples. My patients range in age from 11 to 90.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
